Kabal Icons: Screaming Maw

Right then, forgive my ignorance but this seemed like the best place to put this thread. Obviously if it gets moved, I apologise.

I'm having some difficulty deciding on a Kabal icon for the Kabal of the Screaming Maw. After several scrap pages of preliminary rough drafts, I've come up with this tenuous idea:



What do you folks think at the moment? Is it a bit too tyranid/orkish? Is it too complex/simple to be a Kabal icon? I'm working on a glyph to go either on the skull or in the maw, but the overall shape is what's concerning me right now. I'm tempted to link the jaw to the skull, but decided it looked a bit too... flat. Obviously the lack of any real colour affects that massively.

Ideally this is going to be the Kabal's logo, possibly borne on my Archon's banner, possibly not. Smaller, similar Icons will be borne on the banners of my squads and place on my transports as I deem fit. I have a few different designs that will fit nicely on the banners. The points on the icon will all be sharpened as well, for those of you concerned about the slightly rounded ends to some of the pieces.

The colour scheme will either be a black skull on a white background, much as it is now, or a white skull on a dark background, either blue, purple or black.

As always, suggestions, comments, encouragement and disparagement are all welcome.

As a secondary thread basis, I encourage you all to throw your own DIY Kabal icons on here, not just so that I can take inspiration from them, but so you can show off.

I like the shape of the skull but I'm having some misgivings about the jaw. It seems too large relative to the head and unbalances the image. If you reduce the weight of it by tapering it to a "V" shape and shortening it a little it would work better for me. You are on the right track to a good looking icon. With a bit of refinement you'll have nailed it.

I agree with horrid about the jaw. I also think you're right about a sigil/rune needing to be placed in the forehead of the skull.

I would agree with both posts above, narrow the jaw a bit and it should look fine. Having read a bit of the background for your Kabal you've posted I understand why the jaw is the size it is so it looks good to me.

As to the second part of your post, I'm still working on a true symbol for my Kabal but unfortunettly I'm no artist. At the moment I've got a basic sigil down to paint onto banners and that's about it. Would be nice to have a proper symbol though. The icon in my sig is how I plan to paint my banners.

When painted it doesn't look so bad actually...

How just oging with maw?

I've made a few modifications over the weekend between drinking sessions and came up with this, which is far closer to what I had in mind:



I think the final version will lose the "chin horns" as well as the extra horns up top, and I#'ll shrink the cheekbone-blades down to be less noticeable. I'm quite pleased with it though!

Still working on an appropriate sigil/rune/glyphthing, but I take some comfort in realising that the glyphs shown for kabals in the codex very rarely show any visual correllation with their kabal names. This obviously opens up the possibilities.
