| Good news Bad news.
Good news I have a new army in the works. Bad news is that it is not a second Dark Eldar army.
Even tho space marines are obviously inferior to the most sublime of races, the Eldarith Ynneas, Salamanders Space Marines hold a special place in my heart. So a while ago I started a small army of them and now that I have a little bit of disposable Income I would like to Purchase some more. This is a List of what I have so far. I am hoping to get some advice on what to purchase next.
+Salamanders- 1230+
HQ- Vulkan He'stan- 190
HQ- Pellas Mirsan- 150
HQ- Command Squad- 140 5 flamers
Elites- Firedrake Assault Terminator Squad- 200
Troops- Tactical Squad- 195 power fist, flamer, multi-melta
Troops- Scout Sniper Squad- 100 camo cloaks, sniper rifles, missile launcher
Fast- Storm Talon- 155 assault cannon, sky-hammer missiles
Heavy- Land Raider Redeemer- 250 multi-melta
A short list of things I think may be good to acquire soon. - Librarian Terminator for my Firedrake squad. - Land Speeders to "Turkey Slap" my friends with lol. - Rhino's for obvious reasons. - A second tactical squad kitted the same way. - A Sternguard squad in a drop pod kitted with melta/combi-melta - A Razorback for my Command squad and there hero. - A vindicator
Some of these things would replace some of my existing units and that is fine with me as I really want a Librarian. If I where to purchase a group of things at a time It would probably be a group of transports, a group of tactical marines/stern guard or a group of Speeders.
Ideas? | |

| I would be inclined to go the typhoon missiles on the talon rather than the sky hammers. Who or what is the second HQ? | |

| Pellas Mirsan is the captain of the Salamander second company. He is from one of the imperial armor books or something like that.
He is not great but I wanted to model him and boy did I.
I would most likely replace him with the librarian and his squad with Sternguard for Vulkan to fight with.
May I ask why the typhoon over the Sky-hammers?

| Well, you're doing roughly the same things I'm planning to do when I get my Salamanders off the ground. A second tactical squad, transports, and HF/MM Land Speeders are all things that I'd be wanting to do with that army. The only thing I'm not so sure about is the Sternguard. Yeah, they do some awesome things, and you can kit them out to carry more special weapons and combi-weapons than god, but they become really, really expensive doing that. You then need to get really close to do that, and you're basically inviting your opponent to have a go at wiping out guys who are tactical marine survivable at about twice the cost. If I did take Sternguard, I'd probably only take a small squad, and I don't think they'd be my idea of a Vulkan escort, as they become too enticing a squad to hit. Vulkan really needs a squad who gets to get up close and personal to play with, and looking at the codex... I'd probably suggest another group of Hammernators in a LRR (although remember your flamestorm cannons aren't TL alas ) The only thing I'd suggest which I don't think you're looking at is Dreadnoughts. Give them a MM, stick a HF under their fist, put them in a drop pod, and you've got a unit that has fairly good odds to kill something important. It will also attract a lot of firepower in return, which might help your Land Raiders. "Only" costs 150 points. | |

| for 150 a five man squad of stern guard with two melta-guns and three combi-melta's is not bad. Throw in a drop-pod and on the first turn wreck a defiler, land raider or a ton of other really annoying high value targets. That's my two cents on Sternguard. A tactic that has been used on me more times than I care to count.
A question popped into my head on the way to work today. Why Land speeders over Attack bikes?
The bikes are cheaper in $$$ and in points. they have T5 and two wounds and a 3+ save. Added to this is the fuff factor. The Salamanders Death world of Nocturne has messed up gravity that makes training in land speeders all but impossible; So they rarely use them.
What one is best? | |

| Sorry for the Double Post but last night I had two game's against blood angels.
The first game was 1500 PTS; we played 'big guns never tire' & vanguard strike. I was lucky this time as I borrowed my brothers Land raider so had enough tanks to hold the three objectives. However the best part was when his assault marines and death company failed to take my tactical squad and terminators in close combat. Victory - Salamanders.
The second game was 750; we played 'Old Annihilation' and 'Pitched Battle'. I set up in the corner with scouts, tactical and terminators in a layered defense. This game did not go as well as I was quickly overwhelmed by the onslaught of Death Company, Sanguinary Guard and a Library Dreadnaught. Victory - Blood Angels.
I think tanks and heavy weapons are good for Salamanders over mass infantry.

| So I decided to order both. Here is my new 1500 pt list.
Into the fires 1500
HQ- Vulkan He'stan- 190
HQ- Epistolary T'sen- 175 Terminator armor.
Elites- Firedrake Assault Terminators- 200
Troops- Tactical Squad- 210 power fist, teleport homer, multi-melta, flamer
Troops- Scout Sniper Squad- 100 cloaks, teleport homer
Fast- Attack Bike Squadron- 150 multi-melta's
Fast- Storm-Talon- 155
Fast- Land-speeder- 70 heavy flamer, multi-melta
Heavy- Landraider Redemmer- 250 multi-melta
I figure this will solve the problem I am having with lack of punch. 4 more twin-linked Multi-meltas and another heavy flamer making a total of six multi-melta's two heavy flamers and a flamer all twin linked.
When I move the list to 2000 I will add back Pellas Mir'san and his command squad for a whole other 6 flamers. This unit has a GREAT track record with tyranids lol. Or when I fight nids trade out my terminators for them and perhaps another speeder when I get the money.
