| I am an awfully slow painter and still haven't given my Dark Eldar a lick of paint. They're almost finished converting wise but one thing stopping me from painting a few is the colour scheme.
My army is based on Duke Sliscus and The Sky Serpents.
I cannot for the life of me settle on a colour scheme. I have gone from grey to yellow to pink, back to grey, pink again, I just can't settle.
Every unit is converted in a specific way and will be given their own background to exaggerate how renegades flock to Sliscus's banner.
Would it look wrong for each unit to be completely different? Perhaps a spot colour to keep them linked? | |

| Absolutely not, they are Eldar after all Seriously, if your fluff is based on different renegade units banding together from time to time for plundering, then why should they all look the same? Also, in the various WD's where GW has described the different covens and kabals, or provided army lists in their battle reports, each unit has a completely different sounding name and background. And they don't all have to be dark colours, either. Do whatever you want. I painted my 'Nids different (muted) colours for each unit, and the individual bugs within each unit also vary slightly. This is because my fluff is based on the premise that they eat everything in sight before being regurgitated by the collective hive. If they eat different stuff, they're not likely to look exactly the same, are they? (and they're not so hard to re-paint, because I can do whatever I want and it'll be corect) Cheers. | |

| There should be a unifying theme in my personal opinion. Some paint that ties the army together. Either it being the armor ridges are all the same color, the shoulder pads, or some other cohesive identifying marking(s). | |

| One of the bloggers I know is also adding a spot of flock in a certain area on each base in order to identify each squad. | |

| I feel your pain. I picked up the bulk of my army when the new codex released and painted diligently for a month when I realized there was too much green in my turquoise scheme that I had painted. I had to do another repaint with a blue base and midtone and still haven't completely resolved the accent colours. I decided to use harmonies for most accents because even a spot of a complemetary colour is jarring when the main colour is really only coming into its own on extreme highlights. What a disaster. Don't even get me started about test raider smekellex . | |
