And I rarely look at points when I want to take a fun unit. My Archon that follows them around is usually in the 160+ range. Shocked

I dont look at points either, i know the load out that suits me. I pick the units i always take then choose rest of my force after that, my Archon is always 175 points.

PGL, Huskblade, Shadowfield, That's already expensive, then...

i'd add Venomblade for 5 pts. It's much better for destroying orks, guardsmen and other filth of galaxy.

Ghostplate can be overlooked by many... it's not madatory.

I find that incubi are brutal when used correctly. You need to really commit to using them as a big part of your strategy. I use them as forward pressure units that the enemy must deal with. I take two units of six, in raiders with a haemonculi. He grants them FNP. The raiders have enhanced ether sails. I combo them with the Baron.

If you only take one unit then the enemy will concentrate on that unit and shoot them down. If you take two, both are more likely to survive. In turn one you zoom both squads to wherever you want to go by using the sails. Your enemy will be forced to deal with them but will have a hard time dealing with both. One or more of the raiders will get shot down. With 3+/5+ save most of your incubi will survive the crash. Position your haemonculi so he can soak subsequent high strength shots that would double out the FNP. If your opponent hasn't dealt with your incubi squads by your second turn, you assault him. 5-6 incubi will kill pretty much anything they touch. Even terminators get mashed.

I try to run the Barron close by so he can join an incubi squad that need his grenades. He can keep up. He also gives you a little buff for going first (which is helpful). If you start him in a wrack squad then he can bring along another pain token so when he joins the incubi unit they have furious assault. Let's say 5 incubi and the baron with two pain tokens assault an MEQ squad. That's (6.6 + 1.1) 7.1 dead MEQ in your turn. You'll kill the rest in his turn and you can continue the assault in your third turn.

I love my Incubi almost as much as I love my beast pack.

Watch out. If you run too many incubi you'll wipe the target squad in one round of combat. Then the incubi will be exposed to fire in your opponent's turn. You want the combat to last two rounds and then be over. With 5-6 models that should happen.

Remember, young grasshopper, the incubi treat combat as an art form~ and so should you.

Also, there are enough match ups where incubi are sub-optimal that you don't really want to go overboard with them.

Rancid blade- I dig you're setup. I've been doing similar but with 1 incubi and 1-2 grot squads but otherwise same exact approach with sails and gamelan. Basically I make assault a major aspect of my army. Grots also assault tanks very well. One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is using the crater or even wreckage of their raiders for cover. Probably standard practice for everyone but worth mentioning because you can pretty much rely on getting cover saves at worst, or even a survived raider at best.

On topic again, I've been running incubi in sizes ranging from 5-9 with and without klaivex. So far I feel the larger squads are much better because mine always get shot up prior to and during assault. Even small squads decimate most units but tend to get reduced to ineffective too quickly for my liking. I think sticking in combat is too luck based to build a unit around personally, its also better against marines that can't be swept.
Klaivex I've found usually isn't necessary since the unit is so killy even if the archon gets challenged. The pgl on the other hand is pretty high priority. Units that hide in cover are often weak in combat, but not always and it sucks losing incubi models to crap troops striking at init 2. For this reason I like the pgl. I will however try a maxed unit next with no archon just to see how it does. Maybe ablatives at more efficient than attaching my archon, even charging cover. If so though ill definitely run a klaivex with bloodstone.

i think that really comes down to: how often are people putting objectives in cover?
i suspect that will be quite a lot of the time. as units tend to go for objectives, we tend to need them off the objectives so we can win. that means we kinda need to assault into cover every now and again

Ya my opponents will always put objectives in cover against non grenade packing armies such as DE. I am curious though since a full squad of 10 incubi with bloodstone to soften them up might still work against such units which tend to be weak in assault. Say as opposed to a smaller unit with pgl archon attached. I've had plenty of assaults where the pgl didn't matter but more bodies is always welcome, I suspect the new tau will be similar..ill find out soon enough. That said the archon is beast. I lost all 6 incubi last game to shooting and overwatch then the archon waded through 2x8 cron warriors and 5 immortals never failing the SF.
