PostSubject: Dark Elf Sorceress Conversion Question   Dark Elf Sorceress Conversion Question I_icon_minitimeFri May 03 2013, 09:32

It's times like these I wish I were in a Haemonculous Coven. Today I got a Dark Elf Sorceress for the project I've been working on so I could use the legs for a wych torso. However, I ran into a bump when I noticed that the nature of the model would make it REALLY difficult to have just the waist down, since the back and front of the waist are on different components. I'd like to just cut the torso from the front half of the waist. As much as I'd hate to do this to a good model and risk damaging it, I really want these legs for my Archon idea and could always use the upper half for another conversion! A friend of mine suggested I might could heat the hobby knife with a stove and cut the part I need. Does anyone else have a suggestion for this conversion? Advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would say some greenstuffing on the two parts of the torso would eventually be inevitable. I'd personally use the good old hobby knife for a slow, careful cut, and if I made a mistake, I'd cover it up with some other bit. That's how I usually roll, anyway.

Don't know about the heated knife idea - I'd suggest you first trying it on a piece of sprue to see just how well it works, to not risk damaging the plastic.

A nice sharp hobby knife is usually good enough for me, or a hobby/coping saw with a really thin blade http://www.ehobbies.com/zon35670.html

I would shy away from a heated knife just because of the potential to cause wider damage and warping, it would depend on how heated it was of course, but as Siticus said, if you want try it first on some piece of sprue or some bitz you can live without.

I would not recommend a heated knife. The heat will round the edges.

Thanks for the input! Haha, yeah, I figured green stuff would be inevitable, but I should start experimenting some with it sooner or later anyway. If my friend can find his extra hobby knife blades I'll get to starting. Really hoping this goes alright for a first conversion. bounce
