| So I have been trying something new lately and it WORKS. Ravagers have always been our mobile Anti-Tank units. They move their full 12" then fire all 3 DL's at BS4. This is great don't get me wrong, but I found something even better. Deep strike them. Seeing as they still count as moving, they get their Jink, and sure, they will probably die faster, but they will most likely make up for their small point cost. It makes marines sweat just a wee bit when all of a sudden their invincible land raider goes pop on turn 2. This tactic may seem a little unorthodox, seeing as most sit their Ravagers back with Nightshields and just fire at stuff that can't shoot back. However, this seems ineffective to me, as most things either have a 48" range (Lascannons/Missile Launchers) or can just move the 6" that the Nightshields reduce range by, and shoot at us anyway. Sure it's great against pesky Melta's and such when they only have a 6" range, but still. I have been taking 2 Ravagers and Deepstriking them next to Eldar Fire Prisms or Marines/Chaos Land Raiders, and just giggling with joy as things go boom. The counting as moved is also nice, because not only does it give us the Jink save still, as I said, but it also lets us keep the 3 shots at full BS. Really, I can't see much of a downside to this tactic, unless they just immediately get shot down or mishap, which my dice god offerings have apparently been good enough to prevent but even the chances of them getting shot down are reduced when their entire army is soiling their pants while firing at the Razorwing staring them down who doesn't need to use evade and reduces range by 6 inches Anyway, maybe I have overlooked something that is a mistake when doing this, but thus far this has worked wonders. Any other ideas relating to this? | |

| You don't have any ranged AT on the table until at least Turn 2.
You have to roll for them to come on and if the dice are unkind they may not arrive until it's too late.
They scatter and are fairly large models so it's not unheard of to end up mishapping.
You need to either have the Duke in your list or equip them with retrofire jets which are all additional costs.

| False on the first one, I forgot to mention, Lanceborn. Usually 2x3 Lanceborn.
The longer it takes for them, the more spread out the opponents army will be, and the more room I have for scatter. The dice have not been unkind to me yet, though yes I do understand this could pose a problem, but be reminded, this is not the only AT I have on the board. I never play a game without equipping my list with Wyches who are equipped with Haywires or with Blasterborn in a Venom.
Yes, they will scatter at some point, though the chances of them being destroyed are small, as I have to roll a 1, though I am sure it will happen sometimes, as Warhammer never fails to disappoint. Though if they go back into reserves, they will get a second chance, and if the opponent places them far away, chances are their army will be moving up, so they will then just turn back into mobile tank hunters.
I usually have Duke in my list, I put him with Kabalites in an Aegis line as a babysitter in case something magically gets close enough to assault them, and to improve their weapons. Duke is by far my favorite HQ in our codex, aside from maybe Lelith, though I don't use her. If I don't have him, then I will most likely just use them as long range, or switch the usualy 10 points for nightshields for 10 point jets.

| Yes, this works.
I'm just not even sure what the big advantage is. Basically the only one I can think of is that you're giving up 1-2 turns of shooting in order to maybe get some rear armor shots.
It's not a bad strategy - but if you like to shoot landraiders and you like to have a jink save there's another way to get that effect with a Ravager...it's called just starting it on the board, moving 12" and shooting the landraider. If the loss of a round or two of shooting is worth it to you to maybe get a bit of rear armor shooting chance, then I say go for it. I, personally, prefer to start on the board and know I have my lance shots - and I think Ravager lance shots are better than Blasterborn lance shots because they allow me to fire lances deep into the opponent's deployment zone - which is really important in my opinion, because that's where a lot of players will keep powerful armored units whose job it is to shoot up Raiders/Venoms. I want to kill those types of units as quickly as possible in order to protect my army - I can't afford to wait 1-2 turns for my Ravagers to arrive, because by then the enemy would have already had a chance to shoot up my army. That's why I don't do this type of list.
