Need some help

Hey guys!

I have finally started playing DE after collecting them for about a year, been gluing, painting, exams etc Anyway, I am getting my assed kicked everytime I play. I cant seem to get the DE tactic down. I know hug the terrain and get close to the enemy...

Most terrain give our vehicles 5+ cover save, which is the same if we use Jink. I got a game against Tau coming up soon and I just wonder how I should approach this. I have been thinking about just going flat out, getting the 4+ cover save and getting as many units as possible right up under his nose, but it also seems like suicide.. Seems hard to stay out of rapid fire range and still be able to charge the next round yourself. In the last game against Necron, 1000 p battle, I had 9 Dark Lances total and after 3 rounds of shooting with them I had made 1 hull point! And the rest of the army was almost gone..

Any help or advice would be great.
