PostSubject: After 5 years of waiting, my DE win!!   After 5 years of waiting, my DE win!! I_icon_minitimeSun Sep 29 2013, 10:35

Hi all! Maybe I had a bit more Mushkilla in the old brainbox today, but my DE won for the first time at my local game club. Am quite chuffed.

DE were my first army. I never gave up trying to win with them but it was certainly hard to find time for games when I had 2 young boys vying for my time. I kept building and scheming and playing on average 2 games a year at the local. This year was the year I was going to be able to make a bit more commitment to competitive play.

Thank you so much to everyone who posts here. As I went about my turns today, methodically applying a heap of firepower to isolated pockets of Grey Knight resistance, I thought about the battle reports and strategies I read and how I needed to capitalise. At the end of turn 5, my kabal had captured a storm raven, Mordrak and a handful of his termies, a bunch of 20-odd Henchman with monkeys and servitors, Inquisitor Coteaz, a Vindicare Assasin and a dreadknight for the loss of a Voidraven Bomber, a blob of beasts three raiders and 2 wyches.
Do what you will with the rest, I'm going to try on this dreadknight armour for size...

Congratulations! Winning with DE is exhilarating isn't it? Great to hear that the TDC contributed to your victory! Just goes to show that sharing the pain, really does help. Very Happy

Congratulations! Your post just radiates the joy and tension of victory. It sounds like, despite yourself, you were pretty gobsmacked. At what point did you realize, "I can do this, I can really actually do this"? And was it the precise moment your opponent's smile turned brittle?

Cheers Mush and Por'El! At the end of turn 1, an observer came by and said that it was going poorly for me. This exact GK list had done very well for him in a tournament. I didn't see any fat lady singing though, so I played on!
At the top of turn 2 was the turning point. My beast pack, targeting the Vindicare had just been swept off the board by the defence line holding Dreadknight. However, in committing him to my end of the table, the Dreadknight was horribly exposed to my Venom, dissie ravage, D/L ravage a newly arrived Voidraven and 2 squads of kabalites. One of those warrior squads had the Serpent's venom. Ah, how tense was that wait for the inevitable 1s. That shooting phase removed a very big threat.

Then in turn 3 I dealt with Mordrak who had arrived by deep strike behind my lines in a ruin with a LOS obscuring wall. I reacted prudently by moving all vehicles to be more than 30" away from him and moved my kabalites off my objective in the open and buried them behind another LOS obscuring wall. If he wanted the objective or a CC target, for which he is most ably equipped, he had to come out of hiding and run 12" to get it. When he popped his head out, and he had to really because he would have died wondering, I turned all my AP2 his way and the wall was used against him. 2 ghost knights and him were exposed, 2 were stuck behind the wall and could not see their leader so could not do the look out sir save. Once I'd popped the front 2 termies, I IDed him with the D/L. The whole unit went "vanish". That was brutal and I apologised to the other player for being so ruthless because the brittle smile was kind of flashing through at that point.
Meanwhile, with Furious charge on the grots and some roid raging S4 wyches, I presented multiple assault threats to Inqusitor Coteaz and a bucket load of henchmen, servitors and monkeys. This lot of GK had been well softened up with prior shooting and the DE had cracked the 3++ invulnerable shield shell so it was time to drink the yolk, if you will. The grots were farther away but declared first charge to tank the overwatch wounds from servitor plasma and Multi-meltas. Then the wyches got stuck in. By the time the dust had cleared and the grenadeless Grots had their chance to swing, Coteaz was all that was left. At S6, all the grots needed was a single wound on the Inquisitor, which they got:twisted: Twisted Evil

End of game turn 1 always looks bad for us, especially when going second. But it just seems to lure our enemies into a false sense of security. Very Happy

Dark Eldar are like poison, you don't realise you are dying until it's to late.

In my case, it's a fully justified sense of security most of the time. That being said, last week I was playing my DE/Eldar list and had lost one Wave Serpent, lost a HP off the other Serpent and taken 2 wounds off my Wraithknight by the end of my opponents first turn so things didn't look too good. Fortunately the Baron and his merry bunch of beasts, accompanied by a Jetseer were in assault range at the start of my first turn. They spent the next 4 turns annihilating 4 different GK and BT units whilst the Wraithknight popped 2 Predators and a Dread and the Venoms and surviving Dire Avengers generally hung around trying to make themselves look useful. Very Happy

Congratulations.

The sweetest victories are the ones you've worked hard for. Like you, I think most of us had many ( many ) losses before finally being able to read a battlefield and apply our forces where they can do the most good.

Congratulations!

Compared to a DE player, the Tau only think they understand patience.

First off, Congrats!! Sounds like a well fought win! Even though I'm fairly new to this community, I'm proud to be a part of that which helped you so much along the way.

Secondly, I also think it's worth noting that while 5 years seems an awfully long time, the lack of games during that period really puts you on about averages when it comes to really getting the feel for how DE play.

Next up, time to expand the range of slaughter! Looking forward to your next tales of victory

Thanks team! Since that first win, I have strung together 4 in a row with victories against armoured IG, white scars and meched GK. I am in a tournament in the weekend and quite excited about notching a few more! The tournament is power armoured heavy and I am the only DE player. On top of that there are only about 5 other xenos armies represented. Doesn't the idea of smurfs vs imperial fists seem dull to most here? My bolter hits, wounds ah you saved. Your turn! Hits, wounds, I save...repeat ad infinitum
Threat bubbles- that beautiful post- has been a real education and I have examined anti-drop pod techniques, too. My play is more intelligent, cohesive and devastating because of TDC!!
