This is a display project I had been considering for several years, the current DE range finally gave me the incentive to get it done.

It is a 5 woman Wych squad disembarking from a Raider. The Raider is held up purely by the one Wyche that has already landed on the ground. The remaining Wyches are all in the process of leaping from the vehicle.

I wish I had a steady enough hand to be able to achieve competition quality paint jobs, but I always considered this a building project before a painting one.

I was inspired back in the mid 90s by a national military model painting competition I read about in a magazine. The winning model was three Napoleonic era Scots Greys cavalry all leaping over a hedge. The entire model was supported on the hoof of a single horse.

I think I need to go back and fiddle with my camera settings to get better quality pics though.

The Wych on the ground must have awfully strong legs!

Fantastic work though. Love it!

This quickly reminded me of that one pic in the codex with the wyches jumping down, I think it was either against Tau or IG.
Very good!

for those of inquiring minds:
It doesn't show up very well in the photos, but there is a wooden display base which has a metal rod inserted through it, the metal rod goes up into the one wyche's leg to about the hip. there is another metal rod through the torso into the pelvis section for stability. With a final metal rod from the torso, through the arm into the raider to hold everything up.
My biggest concern was the raider and passengers being to heavy and warping the rod through the arm. But fortunately it all held up beautifully.

It took about 15 minutes of slow drilling with a pin vise to put the holes through the leg and arms. As DE are so skinny I could only fit a 1/16" rod into each limb. Luckily that was enough to hold everything up.

That is one strong wyche holding up the whole thing! Good job!

I love the pose of the green haired one leaping from the back.

This is a beautiful piece Yrddraiggoch, both the modelling and the paint job. Congratulations.

It is very dynamic and has lots of character, you almost need a special short story to go with it. And your painting is fine, I certainly wouldn't sneeze at it. When you take some new photos, try a few with a different coloured background, as well.

I really hope that you post this in the Aphotic Gallery when you all is done. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Cheers.
