Like I said in my Army list topic I managed to get a spot in a Tournament that was held a two hour drive from my home. Some of my friends have attended this tournament before and have really liked the atmosphere there. We had a grill party on Friday night so that all of our team would be in good tournament mood Saturday morning. Saturday morning our car full of players started to head towards tournament grounds after spending a good half an hour trying to catch my cat that run from the house while we packed stuff to the car. The event was heavily comped not allowing allies, super heavies or forts etc. My list was pretty standard DE tournament list.
Vect
Baron
3 wracks, Venom, ns
3x5 kabalites, Venom, ns
3x5 wyches hwg, Venom, ns
4 Beastmasters, 20 khymerae
3 Ravagers, ns
Almost 1850
Before the games begun I discovered that that the player who wins the roll to go first (Baron +1) must do so. So no fancy Vect stealing action in that many games.

1st game:
My opponent Eldar with 4 Serpents, Prism, Sunknight, Fuegan, Spiritseer, 5 wright guard. Not the most fun list but a lot easier than my friends list of 6 serpents and 2 WK. Mission was one object in the middle and super line breaker. Won the roll to go first and deployed my beasts, Baron and Vect in a 3’ line in my left flank. Venoms and ravagers were in cover so that they could shoot almost everywhere effectively. He deployed all five skimmers in cover with troops in them. Prism and 2 serpents were opposite my Beasts and two serpents on the other end of the deployment zone. WK stayed in deep strike. He didn’t seize. T1 I managed to kill 4 rangers with venoms, but Serpents managed to avoid all lance shots. Beast run forwards and Venoms with Wyches flat outed to his face. In return I lost some 7 khymerae and two venoms carrying wyches. 1 wych managed to stay standing close to his Serpent. The other unit that got shot down lost three members and got pinned. Next turn Beast assaulted one serpent wrecking it. The one Venom full of wyches managed to deliver its load close enough of Prism so that it could be wrecked. The sole standing wych threw a grenade and missed as is a custom in my DE. But in assault she managed to explode the empty Serpent killing one Wraithguad next to it. Sadly she died too in the explosion but we’ll sing song about her deeds in battle. My opponents T2 saw Sunknight Dropping to the middle of the board and shooting its sungun to my beasts that were bunched up after assault on Serpent. Only Vect survived that barrage when he aided it a bit with two 3 surviving Serpents. Next turn Venoms splintered the Knight to 1 wound and Vect had the honor of shooting the last wound of it. I had some trouble taking Fuegan out since he got the heal spell on his Spiritseer but in the end it was a wrap-up after T3.  Nice combo btw Fuegan losing wounds and spirit seer healing him again. My one of my ravagers got to taste he’s 9 S9 attacks in cc to its destruction. 7-3 victory for me in the end as I had several Linebreakers against his one surviving guardian after T7.

2nd Game:
A very soft Typhys list with 6 oblies 60 zombies 2x9 plague marines and a 350pts Nurgle prince. Even with him stealing the initiative it was a T3 wipe. Prefered enemy beasts against Zombies was hilarious. 33 wounds :D10-0 for me and to table two for last round tied with a Necron player that got to table 1 against my friends Necrons.

3rd Game:
Killpoints with modifiers and 5th ed spearhead deployment. My opponent was a friend of mine with 6 serpents, 2 wk and Elrad. By far the worst army against me in the whole tournament. He won the initiative to go first and deployed as close as possible to my with WK:s and Serpents right behind. I took a risk and deployed beast too to the extreme front. Wyches in Venoms right behind. Other Venoms and ravagers further behind. My seize the initiative roll: 4! Finally Vect gets to show why he is on the list. T1 I shot 3 wounds to WK on the left with beastmasters and the 4 non Wych Venoms shot the other WK down with a little help of Kabalites. My beast had assault range of 6 to the WK right in front of them. I rolled two “2” but fleet saved the day. 8” made sure I got in to base to base contact. Vect then punched 5 holes to it killing it way too easy. In return Elrad misfortune my beasts and one squad of guardians and 3 Serpents shot it to oblivion. All the Wych Venoms that had flat outed to his face had the same destiny. He had flied his 4 serpents on top of impassable terrain to be safe from my assault if he was unable to kill all my forces. My T2 Ravagers were on fire killing total of two serpents on top of the impassable terrain taking two troops with them. The sole standing Wych squad made it to cc with one Serpent wrecking it in one go. 3 Serpents to go. I was going to make it. In retaliation his reminding t serpents wrecked two ravagers. Three squads of Dire avengers killed my Wyches. Also the 2 times two that were pinned from 1st round. Not so good anymore. T3 my sole surviving Ravager did the ravager thing again and failed totally. Next turn it too bit the dust. I had zero way to deal with those Serpents left. Lost the game 0-10. I took a risk in the beginning and while doing ok it was not enough. But it was fun and brutal game. in two turns we’ve wrecked each other’s armies almost totally.

My last game dropped me to 10th place. And Even that I got the full 7 points from painting it didn't help that much since most of the armies were very good standard. The list worked well for a DE but was no match for Eldar. I would have rather played against Necrons that were on top table since I had same amount of points that the other Necron player had at the top table. I’d rather face Wraiths and Scarabs than Serpents even though Night Scythes are not that easy. But the possible opponent only had two of those. Any way I had a blast and would sure attend again next time.

Excellent write up. Hard luck on the 3rd game but I think it was worth the gamble. Those serpent shields kill our stuff way too well and the Holo-fields they get......grrr. They have to be assaulted to be wrecked. All that hardness and damage output somehow equates to the cost of our ravager with nightshield/flickerfield combo.

It's not fair!!
