Heavy support vs Tyranids with poison sacs Empty
PostSubject: Heavy support vs Tyranids with poison sacs    Heavy support vs Tyranids with poison sacs I_icon_minitimeSun Jun 29 2014, 14:15

Hello,

What heavy support or any other option would you say was the best for taking out tyranid flyers with poison sacs? Pain engines high toughness means nothing as everything is wounding on a four plus and the ravager is hitting him on 6's. Would one of the two fliers be viable and if so which one?

Thank
DW

vs. tyranids i tend not to focus as much on heavy. Trueborn in a venom is your #1 unit.

that said. once you have three of those. Bring a flier with necrotoxin misslies.

the missiles are not helpful vs. the flier.... but once he is down, they are good vs. everything in his army.

Actually, blast weapons can hit flying monstrous creatures as long as the firer has skyfire ("Shots resolved at such a target can only be resolved as Snap Shots unless the model or weapon has the Skyfire special rule" - p69), so if you don't mind being a bit of a tool a flier armed with splinter cannon and necrotoxin missiles should do pretty nasty things.

Even without the missile shenanigans, you've got two lances and 6 poisoned shots, which should make a reasonable dent regardless.

If you go the Razorwing route disintegrator cannons come out slightly better against <= T6 monsterous creatures then dark lances (1 1/3 wound vs. 1 1/9), and are better against rank and file troops.

The Raven. It has a Heavy 10 poisoned cannon thing that works wonders against Tyranid Flyers.
