Hi everyone! A friend of mine started to record some of our battlereports, and the latest one includes me!
I hope you guys enjoy our game, and questions/comments/concerns/critiques/ect are welcome. Thank you very much for your time. It is a longer video as we like the style of showing rolls, talking, ect. so if those are not the videos for some of you, I apologize ahead and thank you for reading this post anyways.
Edit: I am the Dark Eldar player by the way.

Ooh, not a happy Necron! It can make things very awkward when you're playing with a friend who gets so down about how the game's going, but you handled yourself well
I don't think the objective cards favoured you that much, you just played to them very well. Our army seem very good at scoring high early on in maelstrom missions, as we can jump onto objectives straightaway, and you did that with aplomb. I always like to see Necron units wiped out in one phase, their reanimation protocol can really keep them around for far too long and your concentrated fire put them down beautifully. Congratulations on the win!

Thank you guys again for your compliments. And yes, our speed does help us in maelstrom. However Blue Table Painting had a couple games a while ago that showed speed alone doesn't win them. 2 games of eldar vs orks and the eldar lost both times because they couldn't take objectives, and survive long enough to KEEP taking them.
I've also realized the arguments for and against maelstrom are the exact same, but from different point of views. The idea that the randomness of what the objectives are helps "weaker" armies still pull off wins, which also then means a "stronger" army can't guarantee a win anymore.
And I've had games go all sorts of ways. Like having the first couple turns complete all my objectives with my opponent only getting 1 a turn, only to have mine stall out and not get anymore with my opponent slowly catching up. Even games where I've won, a lot of them ended closer than the start of the game would have thought. One vs space marines half way through I had 3x his points but we ended something like 11 to 12. And I've heard all kinds of stories of people pulling off last minute wins by getting a slay the warlord+warlord objective+psyker killing+MC killing all from a single hive tyrant kill the last turn. Which I think can be really cool and possibly theatrical as the losing army steels their resolve and slays the enemy warlord, leaving the enemies to fall apart (morale, synapse, or otherwise). But unfortunately the other side is that shouldn't happen. "If I'm winning, I should just win." :/

Yeah, maelstrom missions are definitely another way to forge that narrative they're so keen on! I would imagine Eldar have a tougher time than Dark Eldar just by virtue of their stuff being so expensive. It's great that they have elite units capable of getting the job done in a small squad, but when that job is sit there and take fire, they're going to struggle. Although trying to take and hold objectives for any length of time against Orks is going to be a struggle for pretty much anyone!

Thanks and uhh... it's generally not that bad? :/ Hmm I've tried twice now to make some other kind of response but they keep going kind of long... but yes he and our ork player are not the most positive in our group when it comes to this game I'm afraid. I've had the ork player surrender in the very first player turn of a 1k game before :/
Also something I didn't know until watching the video myself but he had 8 points at one point in the game. I can't recall going over 12 myself... 8 to 12 doesn't sound THAT bad, does it? O.o
