Hail!

I am a Warhammer veteran of about 20 years now, painting my first Catachan at the tender age of 8 and instantly being hooked! Over the years i have battled across many planets and vanquished many foes, my painting has improved but i have never lost that passion when i first picked up that muscle bound man with a melta gun (which i still own through some miracle!).

I haven't actually played 40k properly for a few years now (the odd match but nothing serious) while my main focus has been fantasy. Yet i feel it is time to retire my Imperial Guardsmen and Dark Angels and embrace my true nature!

I managed to get a few games in with Dark Eldar a few years ago (won three against Space Marines but lost against Grey Knights allied with Imperial Guard) and while four games do not make me an expert i at least grasp the general understanding of the nature of the army.

In fantasy i currently play Bretonnia but i had a very long and successful run with Dark Elves and so would like to think i have some experience with armies that are swift and hard hitting but fragile and have to fight on very specific terms or be butchered wholesale.

I have been lurking on the forums for a few weeks and reading up on tactics 101 (which i must say has been very well penned) and while it confirmed the vast majority of my understanding there were several very interesting ideas and topics that i hadn't thought of!

My Kabal, the Obsidian Rose, i was planning to start building on a very basic level around a few bigger units of Warriors boosted with splinter cannons and maybe a Haemo to give them that all important PT in the event they can't reach cover (i was also thinking of modelling an Aegis line for my army so that i could use one that didn't look like i had stumbled across an Imperial cargo ship full of them)!

Those are going to be backed up by Wyches mounted in the utterly beautiful Raiders armed with Dark Lances, thus allowing me to mooch about and maybe pick off some enemy armour and/or jump out my Wyches and hack and slash while aiming for the two turn victory in melee.

So, that's it for now! I am awaiting my first delivery of models to start getting painted up and hopefully i will be taking to the tabletop soon and dragging some screaming souls back to the darkness for amusement!

Kindest Regards

Wolf

Welcome to the dark side Wolf! It is nice to see another veteran player returning to the game, and it is great to hear that you have chosen DE over the boring Imperium. They don't look half as good in wych suits.

Looking forward to seeing your army grow in the workshop, make sure we get lots of pictures. I am sure that you will enjoy TDC immensely - yes, you will find much valuable, and varied, advice here to consider. And never hesitate to ask a question, either.

Cheers, and good hunting.

Thank you very much!

I wont lie, i was torn between DE or Necrons for my new force but what actually swayed me in the end was the fact that Necrons seem to be a very common power gaming army. One of the reasons i wanted to get away from Space Marines was that everyone has them and they are spammed with terrifying regularity! (If the table top represented the 40k universe then Marines would actually outnumber Imperial Guardsmen about 10-1!)

I wanted an army that is very much like a Rapier - fast and utterly deadly in the right hands but a weapon that takes a lot of skill to use. Anyone can pick up a club and swing it at his foe!

It is of course going to be a bit tricky to get used to - the lack of armour for my infantry worries me as i will probably be up against bolters 95% of the time (thus the idea that a 20 man Kabalite squad with a Haemo in cover should prove relatively resilient and useful!).

What i am looking forward to is having good tools for each job! Dark lances, if i am quite honest, arouse me - i love the idea of blowing a land raider to teeny tiny bits or else getting some Wyches on a Venom with Haywire grenades! There seems to be a lot of "solutions" to problems in the codex and i am under the impression that the real key to using DE is to balance a list and apply force multipliers!

Thankfully i dont play tournaments anymore (wife and kids!), but i was never a massive fan of them anyway. While i enjoyed thr competitive atmosphere, more often than no i found that rules were bent to the extreme and lists were designed to be purely unbeaten rather than a balanced, fun and although i am loathe to use the word "realistic".

So that means i should be safe from Necron flyer spam! Although Blood Angels still prove to be anathema to my very existence!

Will get some models done soon and get some pictures up. I am not a bad painter but nor will i be winning any competitions for my painting either.

Kind Regards

Wolf Blackwood
