VULKAN LIVES!

In the process of changing my salamanders into pre-heresy armor etc for use in both 40K and 30K. Its a big task and an expensive one. So where better to start, Vulkan. Its a pricey model but was bought as a gift for me by a relative who is a professional model painter in Germany so pressure is on to make a decent start.

Lovely model though. Forgeworld really knows what its doing. Any criticisms of this WIP, any suggestions would be very welcome. Phone pictures so apologies for semi-potato quality!

I love the model. Is his head black though? I don't know much about Salamanders so is he burnt there?

Yes, the skin tone is supposed to be onyx looking.

It used to just be African heritage looking, but GW decided they should have jet black skin and glowing red eyes instead.

I don't know why the White Scars are still just allowed to be Mongols.

The onyx skin is almost amust for salamanders. Admittedly a lighter shade would stand out more and the features could more easily be seen but for the sake of lore and overall feel of the model it should be more daemonic looking!

Should the gold remain burnished do you think or should it be a bit more "fresh" looking do give a bit more definition on the armour edges?

I'd need to see it in a bit lower light before I could comment on the gold, it all looks a bit washed out atm, but I'm aware that's because of the light.

Hopefully the light is a bit better!

I prefer the dark skinned idea. Makes more sense and is more believable to me than pitch black.

I think they moved away from African skin as their fluff was that they had black skin due to a gene defiency - someone in the studio painted one with dark skin and you can see why they needed to make a quick change.

40k race relations probably best left for another post. We don't want to distract from the awesome job here.

Thank you. Any ideas for the base? Its supposed to be concrete but I don't know whether I should colour the walls like plaster or something to give it something other than grey?
The finishing touches should be done by this evening which would be nice!

I will also post up some pictures of the pyroclasts I got recently once they are in a fit state!
I'm not wanting to go full project log with this but I may add updates post-pay-day as I expand this!

How about scorch marks?
Was thinking about something dark brown/black like this:

Would fit him but not draw attention away from him too much in my humble opinion.

I like the idea, will have to give it a go and a practice!

I'm back. The problem with being a working adult is you go from having all the time and no money to no time and some money. I'm a quick painter, and this shows but here are some of my Pyroclasts as they currently stand. Vulkan for scale as there are no Bananas to hand.

Fair to say Pyroclasts match their fluff as the first game I used them they took out 10 guardsman, a lemun Russ and an imperial knight. No shiny new model syndrome for you!

DISTRACTION LOG

Thank you! It might well turn into a distraction log. Not sure whether it should remain here or go into Project logs but I will leave that to the mods!

I have been raiding and pillaging ebay like a good Dark Eldar and so have some other bits. I picked up the Pyros for £15 and the next little squad lurking in the back I also got for budget price. Hopefully more to come!

I'll be eagerly anticipating more.

Adopted by the Salamanders for that extra melta-goodness. Just to further the distraction within a distraction. But to bring it back here are some Wyches tearing it apart like they currently do. Sheds a single tear.
