Hello all,

lately I have been struggling with my unit of Blasterborn as I found they could not earn their points back through killing during a game. So I am considering 5 man Blaster scourges as an alternative.

Here are my thoughts:

5man Blasterborn squad in a Venom puts out a lot of damage but can easily be shot down. I see a jinking raider with NS as a better option for transport.

Given the new option for scourges, a 5 man squad with 4xblaster costs 140 pts.

Blasterborn with Transport ~180 (depending on transport loadout)

Both units can deepstrike, have basically the same firepower. Scourges have a threat range of 30" vs 24" of Blasterborn moving around in a transport.

Armor of Scourges is better, as they have a save against most standard weapons like a bolter. Their 6+ invul is not worth considering I believe, as it is not solid enough to rely on in any kind - if it saves one wound, great, but it will most likely not.

Inside a jinking transport the Blasterborn are not that easy to kill, but it doesnt protect well against flamers and as soon as the transport is down, the Blasterborn will not have much time left.

What do you guys think? Which unit do you consider as better on paper?

For right now I am sticking with Blasterborn in Raider. Night shields giving a +3 Jink, 3HP plus the fact that only heavy weapons can shoot at the Raider makes me think that its more survivable.

Blasterborn are also more effective against a diversity of targets for when you come across armies with no tanks they can still target down monsterous creatures or high armor saves.

BLasterborn are better because with the venom they get better save, mobility, and also the venom has 12 poison shot !

You'll need both, eventually. And add Ravagers, with lances? why?

I'm thinking going basterborn plus 2 SC in DS whit an archon with WWP and a blaster. So 5 hit of blaster tobopen a vehicle then then SC can take of the passenger if any.

Dont place them in Venoms anymore.
You should split priority targets as much as possible. Your opponent will try to shoot the Blasterborn, so you have to Jink your Venom. So even if there is no damage done, the Venom will fire snapshots.

Place the Blasterborn in Raiders and you get:
1) more durable platform (3 HP)
2) not much wasted potential due to jinking (1 Lance/Dissi)
3) better cover (Nightfield)

Use 5 Standard warriors for Venoms so you can:

1) Stay safely behind cover without wasting too much potential shots
2) Opponent has to split attention between blasterborn and Venom


As for the topic I would recommend both.
Had 2 Games vs IG today (Vehicle heavy) and both did an amazing job.
