| No one should be sweating this raid. We have held two others in the past, have a look through those to see what eventuated. And don't forget to check and see if your victim has a project log here on TDC for ideas on converting or painting, if you are thinking of going those routes. - barenone wrote:

....... I got mine [victim] to, Hes ganna be a tough one, Very specific in a way that takes out some of the fun but I think I still have a way to surprise him mwahahaha. There is no real limitation for requests, other than participants should keep in mind that not everyone has equal means at their disposal and thus be somewhat reasonable. The requests are also considered to be guidelines or suggestions, not hard and fast stipulations. If you think you have a brilliant idea that your victim might like even if it is not specifically on their list, well, that's up to you. As for values, again, it's whatever you consider to be reasonably within your means. The opening post mentioned $12-$15 as a starting point, but everyone knows that 40K can easily be much more expensive, even for a modest unit. You could consider a clam-pack figure, a box set of something, or a nice conversion. You might get a really good deal on Ebay, or have a bunch of older edition models lying around that certain veterans might lose their false teeth over. Whatever. Just relax and have fun, it won't hurt a bit!

| I have received my victim and begun stalking him/her/it through the board of TDC to try to get some pointers as to what sort of gift would be appreciated, and I am left in a quandry. My victim appears to be quite a fan of converting his/her/its models, so should I give an unopened box and leave the pleasure of constructing and painting, or should I give a product of my own flesh-melding panache?
Anyway, I thought that perhaps if I air my thoughts here, people might perhaps reply with their own preferences, just in case they happen to be my impending victim. For the record, I would be equally happy with either an unopened box or pre-made and -painted model (although preferrably something unusual, not just built as per the instructions) if the situation were reversed.

| If you created that beautiful haemonculus in your profile picture, you are duty bound to NOT give someone an unopened box. Even if you didn't make it, I think a converted model is so much more unique and special than a box of models. Call me a fool, but I intend to convert something for my victim so that she/he/it has something unique to remind them of the raid Anyone can buy a box of minis. Only YOU can convert one | |

Good point. I'm definitely leaning conversionwards now. But, of course, not everyone has the time or inclination to convert, so I wouldn't want anyone to feel bad for buying a kit. Still interested to hear other people's opinions though ... or am I just bluffing so Pink doesn't discover he's my victim?

| I would be happy to receive either myself, I think I struggle more worrying whether someone would like a conversion but when you feel your own won't match up with either their style or standards. I think if sending a box a little extra thing like a creepy note or jolly santa kabalite picture helps add the personal touch if you feel a boxed kit lacks that. Its the thought that counts at the end of the day | |

Or colour scheme... Now I'm leaning the other way, fickle haemonculus that I am!

| If worried about paint scheme I think an unpainted kick ass conversion would still be a great present and then it would fit in to their army better | |

| My two cents:
I think people don't mind if they get either an off-the-shelf fig or set, or a conversion. A nice conversion, if you have the time, does have that 'personal touch', and is also often appreciated because they are often outside of your own thinking box. That's what I always think when I get one, anyway.
I tend not to paint a gift because a) I ain't that good, b) I usually don't have enough time to make a gift and paint it and ensure it is delivered on time, and c) I think it's better that my victim can match it to their army how they want.

| I agree with Gob - the gift I gave I felt best about was my Hellions+Wyches = Incubi squad conversion gift. Also, though I haven't received a converted model yet my favorite gift was when I got some very well done custom molded wreck/terrain pieces So the personal touch is awesome if you have the time/skill. I also agree about the painting thing - generally I would either want unpainted, or painted to match my scheme minis because, hey, I want to use the gift in my army more than likely. | |

| @Plastikente If I'm your victim, I want a Haemonculus just like yours. It's amazing. Always more Haemies. Also, my opinion is it's best to leave the painting to your victim unless you know their scheme and have yourself won awards for your painting | |

Conversion lends itself very much towards being unique, so that makes a better one-of gift in my opinion. I'd go converted but unpainted, as that way the recipient can do it up to match their army. (I.e. if someone gifted me a beautifully converted and painted yellow venom, lovely as it would be it would look monstrously out of place in my dark turquoise army). Just my 2 pennies In other news, I'm still on the prowl for what to give my victim. I'm putting far too much thought into this. Incidentally, for whoever I have, advance apologies in case there's a minor delay in getting it finished and posted; I have 7000 words of deadline due at around the same time as ideal gift-posting day so it -might- be pushed back a day or two, but hopefully not!

Wow, some people have been very efficient! I am still working out what to give. Thanks everyone for the opinions, by the way. One of you may or may not be my impending victim, but it's been interesting to get inside the minds of my online rivals enemies friends.
