How do I paint yellow.

I've been thinking of a cool kabals scheme. I've been thinking about yellow and some other stuff.
So if I want to paint yellow how do I.

Welcome to painting on Hard Mode. You usually start with a dark brown base coat. cover that with a light brown and then layer from that. Yellow NEEDS to be watered down. If you want to do it fast then base coat light brown, cover in yellow and then wash with a light tone from army painter. After that go over it with yellow highlights, this can mimic the layering affect.

Thanks it'srumble that makes it sound not much fun. I've been thinking of doing a kind of pinkish purplish kinda thing.

They can look great but expect to put a lot of work into it. I love DE purple.

I know I saw someone here post a blog that had yellow painting on Eldar that just used a shade and highlighting and it ended up looking pretty darn good. Let's see if the search feature and 'Iaynden' work...

Thor rules - and judging by the thread dates, I'm actually pretty proud of my memory!

I have always done yellow paint followed by a brown wash with yellow-cream highlights and then a yellow wash.

But hey, I was painting Bad Moons, Im sure the Eldar are much more demanding.

Yeah, I'd just go with the How to Paint Citadel Miniatures - Eldar way of things and wash a white-basecoated model with Iryel Yellow and edge highlight with some bone colour. Looks great and is easily achieved.

The easiest way I've found is to base with Averland Sunset. Then layer Yriel Yellow on top of it. I prefer to airbrush the Yriel as it seems to come out much better. Also you will do multiple coats so thin accordingly. Bear in mind that the primer you use will help define whether it's a darker (black) or brighter (white) yellow. For edging I'd use Ulthuan Grey - it's almost white.

An alternate way is to prime with white, then use the Lamenters Yellow glaze and/or Casandora Yellow shade. This will come out as a real bright yellow.

Regardless, yellow is hard.
