| Hi guys, Not sure whether to post pictures and bits directly here or link to my blog so for the sake of not duplicating the work I'll just link it for now.
If it's easier for people to follow I'm happy to just post straight here though?
The blog will follow the progress (fluff, battles and painting) of my Dark Eldar Wych Cult as I prepare for and play through an escalation league at my local gaming club.
If anyone has any suggestions as to what you'd like to see on it please let me know.
Thanks for reading, the link is Dark Eldar Hobby Blog

| Just whizzed through your post (admittedly skipped out the fluff one but I will get back to it!) and really enjoying you laying out your progress.
I often feel with blogs that they are written by the hyper productive of our community and its nice to have another person who is easily distract...
Ooooh shiny!
Well you know... Really liking the purple scheme as well, something I find hard to do well and you seem to have a nice amount of depth with it. Bases are also looking good.
FYI don't know if you already noticed but I think you missed off painting the cleavage of one which in fleshtones, or you missed it off on purpose but thought I'd mention. I hate finishing a model and realising I missed a bit like that!
Look forward to seeing more.
Shame exeter not that little bit closer to Bristol or I'd give you a game. Though I do enjoy walking between Dawlish and Weymouth, beautiful coastal walks.

| I too have had a look at your blog, most excellent stuff.
Something I found quite useful (for me, it may not work for you) was to try and schedule posts into my blog, it made me focus a bit more on what I was doing (though I've missed out one the schedule lately, I will come back to it again once life settles down after Christmas!).
For example: I try to post up painting progress reports on a Monday after I've had the weekend to make some progress. Tuesday's I try to think about tactics and wednesdays I just write about any old stuff that comes into my head. Then as I play on Thursday evenings I'll sometimes post up battle reports over the weekend.

| Thanks for the feedback guys much appreciated. Dragontree: Thankyou! I'd completely missed that so saves me some bother later down the line! The purple still has some work to do on it as the wash has pooled in places so I need to bring it back to the base colour and then do some edge highlighting but I wanted to get them to a point where they'll look semi painted on the table asap. I enjoy the walks around the area as well, much as I loved Stoke the scenery doesn't really compare to Devon! The_Burning_Eye: Thanks for taking a look and appreciate your suggestions around schedule, I'm not sure how many people will be interested so for now it's just a bit of a throw things up whenever but if I seem to get some interest I'll likely start to follow more of a structure. I've seen your blog and enjoyed reading through the kabalite warrior review and battle report. I'm going to try and use the program you did to document my game tonight if I can figure it out | |

| Thanks very much - I was the same when I started out - there are a few sites out there that link your blog and when I got on board with them it really helped (talkwargaming and faeit212 mainly).
battle chronicler is fine, so long as you work through it methodically - I found it easier to make notes and do the write up afterwards rather than try to update during the game. The only real problem was drawing the map during the game - it ended up with lots of overlapping lines and turn numbers scribbled next to them - should probably have made a few different ones to keep it simpler.

| yea I was thinking I might just take some pictures during the game then write it up afterwards, I don't expect it'll be a great example of a battle report but hopefully it'll convey the gist of it | |

| I love battle reports with maps and arrows! This was wonderful! Thank you!
And well-played. I was not expecting Wyches to perform so well.

| Indeed, I remember fondly the old battle reports from white dwarf back when I started collecting and it was so clear what was happening (WD195 for those of you wondering just how long I've been in the hobby!)
Well done indeed sir, it just goes to show what a well thought out list used properly can do even with sub-par units.

| Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated I didn't expect it to be so well received. I think with the Wyches they obviously aren't ideal but they can be pretty nasty with drugs, furious charge, and FNP by T4. They seem to do the job for me and allow me to play with miniatures and a theme I like. I've been planning around a T4 coordinated charge with them and it is pretty nasty if I can co-ordinate them correctly (and try and keep the heat off the transports with the flyers from T2) Most opponents seem to be very scared of the Flyers but other than the Anti Tank duties which they've performed admirably, they aren't a massive threat. The Wyches have won me the game each time so far and have gone mostly ignored until they hit home. | |

| Yeah I have to say I'd probably ignore the three flyers if it were me, but I guess that's the advantage of playing the codex. | |

| Updated with progress, almost finished the first unit of Wyches and started assembling scourges, I've popped a question on there regards weapon options on the Scourges if anyone could give some feedback that'd be much appreciated. Rich | |

| I'm gonna post here as my pc seems to be preventing me from commenting on the blog at the moment.
First - I can say you've inspired me to not convert my wyches into warriors, i may even pick up another box to make two full squads.
Second - Magnets. the weapon arms are pretty easy to magnetise so no need to permanently commit yourself to a particular build. I'd recommend 2mm x 2mm minimum, I've got some 1mm ones but they're only good for really small stuff.
Third - I personally think that heat lance scourges are only worthwhile against tanks with either a huge amount of threats elsewhere and a naive opponent, or more likely a WWP delivery system. Don't ignore their prowess against elite infantry though - terminators etc really don't like S6 AP1, so they have more viable alternative targets than the haywire option if your opponent doesn't bring armour (Haywire are still my first choice though).
Fourth - I wouldn't ever run scourges as anti infantry, they are so much more expensive than the alternatives.

| Thanks The_Burning_Eye, I think it's worth giving them a try at least - if only for fun and because they're great models!
On magnets I've only ever done a couple of bits with them but I do have plenty of sizes etc. to be able to do that. It's more the time, I'm on a fairly strict painting plan to try and get everything ready in time (might put a blog post outlining this at some point) and I'm worried that it will take a lot of time up. I've also never done anything so small as arms, normally doing tanks or monstrous creatures.
I guess Heat Lances vs MEQ or TEQ is an option, I'd have thought it would be better to just pip for the blaster, but that's an extra 20pts across the unit so perhaps the Heat Lance has a place there.
So I guess for now I'll make up 4 haywire and 4 blasters, then leave the other 2 boxes to magnetise at a later date, where I can then choose between heat lances / dark lances (at a pinch) or shard carbines.
Thanks for your input!

| Hi there. Been enjoying reading your stuff. Can I ask how you do your battle report images? What program do you use? I am am blooger too (link in sig) and want to start writing a few of my games up but I like the pics you have used, as they really aid in the report. A wall of text can be very off putting. Cheers Edit: doh just realised you mention it as battle chronicler. My bad | |

| haha yea it's battle chronicler, I think I saw it used by The_Burning_Eye and nicked the idea from him Initial setup took a while putting in the lists etc. but I think I can use the armies again so if I can import my Dark Eldar hopefully the next one will be easier. I'll certainly keep the map pics but whether I use Vassal or Battle Chronicler I'm not 100% sure yet. | |

| Yeah you can input all your possible units into chronicler to start with (really handy for me as I name all my units) and then just select them for each game. I really want to get some scenery put in as images but that's a bit involved and need to get some pictures of the stuff I use first. | |
