2000pys WWP vs Mech IG/Imperial Fists Empty
PostSubject: 2000pys WWP vs Mech IG/Imperial Fists   2000pys WWP vs Mech IG/Imperial Fists I_icon_minitime5/9/2011, 09:38

Hi guys,

I had a game on Saturday night with my usual gaming group. I was expecting Grey Knights and Blood Angels and also expecting an Eldar player to be on my side (1000pts each). It turned out being Imperial Guard and Imperial Fists vs 2000pts of Dark Eldar as the Eldar player never turned up. I quickly wrote a list that would utilise the WWP for a bit of a laugh.

Their lists (not exact)

Imperial Guard:

Command Squad in Chimera
2 Veteran Squads in Chimeras (mix of plasma/flamer/melta)
2 Griffon artillery units
2 Leman Russ

Imperial Fists:

Lysander
10 man Tactical Squad w.Powerfist (can't remember the specials)
Dreadnought in Drop Pod
Techmarine
Scout Squad with Telion
Land Raider

My list:

Urien Rakarth
2x Haemonculus with WWP
3 Trueborn - 2 Blasters in Venom with extra SC
3 Trueborn - 2 Shardcarbines in Venom with extra SC
4 Grotesques - including Abberation and liquifier gun with S6 upgrade
5 Kabalite Warriors - Blaster in Raider
5 Kabalite Warriors - Blaster in Venom with extra SC
15 Wyches - Hekatrix with agoniser, haywire grenades
15 Wyches - Hekatrix with agoniser, haywire grenades
3 Reavers - Heat lance
3 Reavers - Heat lance
Talos Pain Engine - Chain Flails, Additional CCW, TL Liquifier, TL Heat Lance
Cronos Parasite Engine - Spirit Vortex
Razorwing Jet Fighter - Flickerfield

We rolled Spearhead and Annihilation (which wasn't good due to the lack of kill points in the Imperial Fists army). There was a large piece of BLOS terrain in my deployment zone which was good.

I won the first turn and deployed first, placing both Trueborn Venoms with a Haemonculus in each either side of the BLOS terrain in my deployment, close to the centre of the board (let's say I was in the bottom left corner) with everything else in reserve. The IG player put his Griffons at the back of his deployment zone, behind some BLOS terrain, with a Chimera close by. The other 2 Chimeras and the 2 Leman Russ deployed on the horizontal centre line near the right side of the board, with terrain in between the different types of tank. The Land Raider deployed on the vertical centre line (short) on the table edge with the Scouts being positioned behind some towers in the Quarter opposite mine. They failed to seize the initiative.

In my first turn both Venoms moved 12" and disgorging bodies. The Trueborn with the Blasters were stood in front of the Leman Russ tanks and the other Trueborn were in LOS of the Scouts (the Trueborn had no chance but the WWP needed to be delivered as fast as possible). Blasters proceeded to shake a Leman Russ and a Scout went down to Splinter fire. Both WWPs were deployed, one 10" left of the vertical centre line in the quarter opposite my own and one pretty much on the horizontal centre line in between the right hand quarters.

In their turn the Drop Pod arrived, behind my Trueborn Venom on the right, not far off my Board edge and just into the right/bottom quarter. The Land Raider moved up to get the Venom in LOS and dropped off the Tactical Squad and Lysander right next to my WWP. The Scouts moved up on the Trueborn with 2 Chimeras moving towards the other Trueborn. In the Shooting phase the obvious happened. The Scouts unloaded on the Trueborn killing 1 whilst the Land Raider slagged their Venom with Lascannon fire. 2 Chimeras with Veterans and 2 Leman Russ opened up on the Trueborn/Haemonculus/Venom with the Dreadnought adding Assault Cannon fire from behind. The Scouts then assaulted the Trueborn, losing a Scout but killing the Dark Eldar. So everything died. A good start, 0-6 on Kill Points so far!

In my turn a lot of reserves arrived, leaving only a squad of Wyches, Warrior Raider, and both sets of Reavers yet to come on. The Razorwing came on my short board edge, lining up the Tactical Squad. I brought the Wyches on my Board edge as far to the right as possible hoping to run around the Drop Pod and engage the Dreadnought. The Warrior Venom advanced off my Board edge and lined up the Tactical marines. The Grotesques with Urien appeared out of the right side WWP surrounded by 2 Chimera and 2 Leman Russ. Both the Talos and Cronos appeared out of the left side WWP with the Cronos right in front of the Tactical Squad and the Talos floating off towards a Chimera and the Griffons. In the Shooting phase the Talos blew up the Chimera with it's Heat Lance, killing 5 of the Veterans inside. The Cronos, Warrior Venom and Razorwing fired at the Tactical Squad, killing 9. The Cronos gave itself and the Talos FNP. The Wyches ran towards the Dreadnought. The Cronos then assaulted the lone Tac marine, the Talos assaulted the Veterans, the Wyches multi assaulted the Dreadnought/Drop pod and the Grotesques assaulted the Leman Russ squadron. The Tactical marine crumpled under the Cronos giving me my 2nd Kill Point. The Dreadnought fended off the Wyches but killed none in return. The Talos killed 2 Veterans but they stayed in the fight. The Grotesques shook a Leman Russ (they needed 6's to hit).

Their turn 2 saw the Land Raider moving away whilst continuing to fire (Techmarine inside, although i'm sure this was wrong, don't think they're IC?). The Leman Russ backed up away from the Grotes and the Command and Veteran Chimeras lined up on them (it was sickening). The Scouts move back towards cover. In the Shooting phase the Grotesques and Urien got pounded by 2 heavy flamers, 2 melta guns, 2 plasma guns, a heavy bolter and a battlecannon. As the dust and smoke cleared there was still all 5 models stood up, with wounds dished out between them. Epic. The Land Raider popped the Warrior Venom and then the Deathwind Launcher in the Drop pod killed 3 of the 5 Warriors. The remaining warriors fled off the Board. Lysander assaulted the Cronos, killing it whilst the Talos finished off the Veterans and consolidated towards the Scouts.

Turn 3 saw a set of Reavers turn up, out of the far right WWP, moving over the chimeras to line up the Heat Lance shot on a Griffon. The Warrior Raider appeared and moved on my left side board edge putting Lysander in Lance range. The other Wyches popped out of the portal in Lysanders face as he tried to get back to the Land Raider. The Talos swung back towards the Land Raider. In the Shooting phase both the Razorwing and Ravager shot at Lysander, doing nothing. The Talos wrecked the Land Raider with it's Heat Lance, disgorging the Techmarine. The Wyches assaulted Lysander whilst the Grotes assaulted the Leman Russ squadron again. Another shaken result was all I could manage (appalling rolling), but the Wyches killed off Lysander before he struck back . The Wyches achieved 2 weapon destroyed on the Dreadnought leaving it with no arms and wrecked the Drop pod.

Their Turn 3 and the Leman Russ tank shocked the Grotes to get away, moving towards the Wyches/Dreadnought assault. Veterans got out of their Chimera to line up shots on the Reavers and the Command Squad got out to shoot at the Grotesques. The Reavers went down followed by all of the Groteques apart from the Abberation and Urien (both on 1W) from combined command squad and Chimera fire. The Griffons finally had something to fire at the blew half the Wych squad away who had killed Lysander and were in the open. The Techmarine assaulted the Talos in desperation, getting flattened. The Scouts then assaulted the Wyches (they had nothing else to do and were going to be assaulted anyway) and promptly died. The Wyches finished off the Dreadnought, losing 5 of their number in the ensuing explosion.

My Turn 4 and the last Reaver unit turned up and attempted the same as the last unit, taking down Griffons! Urien and lone Grotesque moved towards the Command Squad. The Wyches that had killed the Dreadnought assaulted the Leman Russ squadron. The other Wyches and Talos moved over the wrecked Land Raider towards the remaining units. The Razorwing moved down his table edge towards the Griffons (at this point all the Imperial Fists were dead). In the Shooting phase the Razorwing missed the Griffon, the Raider missed the Veteran Chimera. Great. Thankfully the Reavers blew up a Griffon with the Heat Lance. Urien used the Casket of Flensing and wiped 4 of the 5 Command squad out. The following assault lasted all of one second. The Wyches, in an incredible set of rolling, wrecked both of the Leman Russ tanks.

Their Turn 4 and it was looking bad! They managed to take a wound off Urien (who had taken about 5 upto this point) and pounded the Wyches with the remaining Griffon, killing 3 and the Veterans/Chimera killed the Reavers.

My Turn 5, potentially the last turn to inflict damage. Wyches advanced on the Veterans and Chimera whilst Urien and Grotesque assaulted command Chimera, wrecking it. The Talos liquified a couple of veterans before the Wyches multiassaulted blowing up the Chimera and wiping the Veterans. At this point we didn't know how many Kill Points each side had, afterall they'd killed a lot of mine early on.

Their Turn 5 and it was down to 1 Griffon! He pie plated the Raider looking for a Kill Point but failed to get it. Rolling for another turn, the game continued! The only thing I had close enough to his Griffon was the Razorwing which had missed with both lances for two turns previously. Both hit, both penetrated, BOOM! Game over, tabled.

A highly enjoyable game, for both sides. It turned out i'd have won by a few kill points anyway but the death toll was immense! WWP is so much fun. Of course, this was a friendly, hence the inclusion of units that aren't commonly seen but what a laugh. And not a Ravager in sight! Shocked

That sounded an epic game. I am tempted to try a wwp.

Might need to use my wrack as more Haemos though.

Techmarines are Independent Characters (though, not for Blood, or Dark Angels...I'm pretty sure they are for Grey Knights - but since I've never seen a Grey Knight army ever whip these guys out, don't quote me on that one).
