Archon with Fire Dragons, no raider?

Has anyone ever tried wwp deepstrike firedragons with and CC oriented Archon with shadow field with no raider? (I don't know if that sentence made any sense)

The idea is you deepstrike in, (no raider) blast a tank or whatever, and then tank the incoming fire with the Archon's 2+ invol. This will help survive one more turn. Plus, if you get assaulted, the Archon may be able to kill a few guys.

I prefer the raider. 70 points gets me a 3+ cover save and 3 hull points between my dragons and certain death. Haven't ever tried it without, it seems like a one way ticket to the sovereign nation of Assinthebreezia.

I've done both many times and can tell you that the raider makes a world of difference. Always take a raider with night shields.

Think about an Interceptor Riptide, without Raider...ouch!
