1850 BAO List

I've seen someone do a few battle reports with a list like this, and I'm thinking of taking a similar list to the BAO. I'm not expecting to win or anything, but I would like to at least not make a fool of myself.

General structure is Coven Formations + CAD.

There should be some points to spare here and there. Options including tossing nightshields around, putting Armor of Misery + TGL on Succubus for the off chance it helps against certain armies, putting lances on the Raiders, adding a WWP for the DA, and so on.

I'm relatively limited on what I can build + get to 3 color minimum before the tournament, but I could also swap 2 of the venoms w/ warriors for a scalpel squadron to give me a little more control over reserves in situations where I would start with less on the board (e.g., DA only or DA + Grotesquerie) without going all the way to ADL / Autarch ally.

If this list seems totally dead on arrival, I can always go with my marines.

Thoughts?

More faith is needed. Dark Eldar need to show up more in order to play the odds of winning the thing.

Reviewing the list again, I've got a bunch of ideas still bouncing around in my head.

I'm toying with the idea of perhaps replacing one set of haywire scourges OR one of the warrior squads with blasterborn in a venom. One cuts possible dead weight against a non-vehicle army. The other will cause upgrades to be cut elsewhere, but ups the killiness of the army a bit at the expense of 2 obsec units. I think the former is the better option.

Also considering replacing one of the sets of haywire scourges with a razorwing w/ lances. This option hurts anti-tank the most but increases horde killing power, which I don't think is what this list is lacking the most.

Another option is to replace the succubus with a shooty archon to go with either heat lance scourges or blasterborn in a raider. Feels like a lot of sacrificial eggs in one basket just to get that one unit properly positioned, and it also weakens one grot unit on both turn 1, against 2+ saves, and in terms of initiative for sweeping, so this one definitely has tradeoffs.

I'd love to work in reserve manipulation to be able to add a WWP to the DA so they can drop next to the grots to bump FNP, but I think this is out my reach to paint and model before July.

He's saying that more people need to play DE in big tournaments. The more people that play the more our community will grow and the better chance we have a DE player winning a big Tournament. The reason you see Space Marines in top tables all the time is because they have like 40% of the armies at events.

If you are having the Raiders start on the table I might suggest putting Nightshields on them just to make their chances of getting to their target that much better. Personally I think you might want to focus more on one of the two formations and supporting one as opposed to running both. I would run the grotesquerie and then use the 400 points or so from the dark artisan to get either some flyers on the table. Razorwings run 140 points the way I run them. In turn you can put those scourge points into getting 3 ravagers on the table, this way you will have that dedicated AT start on the table and be in a better position to take out what you really need to take out. You are hurting in your AA at this point, and at BAO you will see Flyrant spam and Daemons lists. ( I know alot of people running those lists who are going.)

At this point If you fit 3 razorwings in the list that is a lot in reserve depending how comfortable you are with starting the grots on the table I would suggest using nightshields and aether sails as opposed to WWP them in. (Lots of points off the table). Probably end up deploying in two corners depending on their list and then shifting to one side T1 to counter their deployment as needed. Scourges are good but they will die. Razorwings have a better chance of not dying.

These are just things I would do.

I think replacing the scourges with the ravagers is a direction I will take the army, but likely something I can't accomplish in time. I think you are exactly right that they are there to take out what I need to take out to get the grots where they need to go.

As for razorwings, I think this would work, and I do think it is a good substitute for DA, it just isn't a direction I want to take this army.

I like the idea of splitting deployment, especially if I had only 5 boats on the table to start (3 ravagers, 2 raiders).

If I were going to do WWP grots, I would need about 10 more, and I would want some sort of reserve manipulation to control their arrival. This is same reason I'm hesitant to put a WWP on the DA.

I tried to go to BAO this year and they sold out too fast. I mean wow.

So that was a bummer.
