I'm new, and I <3 gunboats

A 40k group is forming nearby in the expanse of corn fields between Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis, and I've always wanted to play since I saw my first space marine about 15 years ago.  I picked up a bunch of DE minis on ebay, as I really love the idea of a highly mobile, fragile army with a horrific (for my opponent!) shooting phase.  I got mostly Kabal stuff... raiders, warriors, bikes, etc.

I've been hard at work painting prototype warriors to try and finalize a color scheme.  Latest favorite is weathered dark teal armor plates with very bright green/yellow highlights (poison canisters, the "inner barrel" of the splinter rifles, and so on) and subtle purple undertones (undersuit, gloves...).  I have a crap potato phone, but I'll upload pics once I get a formula down that I like and a camera worth taking pictures with.  For having no experience painting minis, I must admit I'm not a terrible painter.  Still very much to learn, and I expect to find my groove once I start painting my army in earnest.

Still hard at work on a name, too.  I've got a couple pages' worth of words that I've shuffled around hundreds of different ways.  Again, nothing final, but the latest favorite is "Kabal of the Baleful Idol."  I'm very much into Lovecraft (Arkham Horror with -almost- all the expansions hits my table often!), so having my kabal based around some bizarre cult really appeals to me.  I've been playing tabletop RPGs for years, so I'm ready to write a story for these monsters.

That's about it.  Looking forward to learning the game with one of the more difficult armies to play well.  I love wargames (this is my first " hobby game," though), puzzles, and crushing my opponent's spirit, so hopefully I've picked the right army.  :-)

edit: Yes, I can often be found with a corn cob pipe hanging out of my mouth.  Good pipe tobacco is my vice of choice.

If you got a theme what your Kabal is about, the name shouldn't be a problem. It has to reflect the style of it. Perhaps it's fighting tactic. Perhaps they attack planets by usage of bombs to create freak waves or tsunami. The name could be something like dark Abyss or abyssal terror...

Yeah, dark abyss, abyssal terror, I've been through over a hundred of those.  :-)  "Kabal of the Baleful Idol" is different enough from the usual stuff to satisfy my itch to be different ("Hi, my name is corn_cob_cabal, and I'm a contrarian"), and it's inspiring me to write some hopefully decent fluff.  I like the ambiguity of it.  There's mystery to it, and while core of my army will be based around gunboats, the supporting actors will come from kabal, cult, and coven units.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I think I did what you said!  The theme is "Inexplicable Cosmic Horror."  Dark Eldar are evil, yes, but they are also alien.  I want to play up the alien side of the DE with my army.

English isn't my native language, so I'm not 100% sure if I capture the spirit of your Kabal name. If you're happy. Great!

No worries, man. It's not really different. I just tell myself it is to get over the analysis paralysis I've been suffering while trying to think of a name for my toy soldiers.
