OK. So i am after a little input from the WH40K community.
My next project I have decided on is going to be a chess board. I have sourced a piece of marble from some kitchen makers to make the board but i am struggling to fill out the pieces.
I have decided to go along the lines of Space Marines (Ultra’s) VS Chaos Space Marines (black legion. Possibly crimson slaughter for red vs blue)

Queen UNKOWN UNKOWN
So as you can see, not sure on what to do with the queens. I am thinking along the lines of Named characters, as the queen (not the king) is the most devastating piece. Possibly Abbadon (although I do not like the model) have NO idea for the SM side.
What is everybody’s thoughts? My board will have 35mm x 35mm squares so 40mm bases are out (no termies) Kings I have gone for the standard bearer on a friends advice that it will be unique on the board and should be pleasing to the eye.

Cool idea.
I'd have though Calgar was a natural choice for the Ultras, though he may be on a 40mm base.
Alternately, take some termis and put them on the new 32mm bases, although these might have more of a vibe of 'rook' than 'queen'.
Either that or the Librarian/Sorcerer becomes queen, and the bishop becomes Chaplain/Dark Apostle?

that was my original though of Calgar vs Abaddon but they both come on 40mm bases
never seeing the models i am not sure if they will fit on smaller bases. Can anyone confirm?

You could always simply go Captain vs Lord for the Queens, just make sure to kit them out very nicely? Aethetically Calgar vs Abaddon would look very nice, and theres no reason you couldn't put them on small bases, but if you against it I would suggest using basic Captain and Lord.

This is pretty much what i have decided on as i have already had a choas lord donated to the set (one from dark vengence set) now to source the interwebs for cheap deals on the rest.
anyone want to sell me 2x raptors or 2x assualt marines? prefer simple bolter/chainsword load out.
surely there is a CSM player out there that purchased raptors and now regrets it deeply lol
