| Hey all, Pleased to meet you! I'm a game dev living in the Seattle area, and I have a big box of Dark Eldar *finally* arriving at my office tomorrow. I've been a fan of the fluff for about 7 years now (geez, has it been that long?), ever since Relic's Dawn of War series got me hooked on PC. Since then I've enjoyed reading books like the Eisenhorn/Ravenor series and telling my girlfriend all about the birth of Slaanesh. I actually bought a CWE battle box back in like 2011 and briefly gave 5th edition a go, but my "friend" and 40k mentor at the time repeatedly crushed my poor guardians with his demon prince . It took me a few years to realize that, rather than give up the game, I should have just found other people to learn with! At any rate, I understand our faction isn't exactly superpowered at the moment, but the models are just the bee's knees and I had to have them. Scourges, Incubi, Mandrakes... man, do we have the coolest looking elites ever or what? Someone told me to go with whichever army had the most attractive fluff / I was most excited to paint, and none of the factions lit my soul on fire quite like DE. I've been poring over youtube videos, especially those by skaredcast and strikingscorpions, looking up painting techniques and generally getting psyched. Can't wait to start! | |

| Welcome in the dark city fellow archon! While I do love our models too, I use fantasy vampire spirit hosts for mandrake, crypt horrors and talos parts as grotesques and I plan on getting my hand the toughest girls of the galaxy f for female Incubbi.
Many people will tell you that the true kin sucks. And they are right. As long as you compare us to armies able to spam a one trick pony to win against anything, like the Craftworld Eldar Scatter Bikes. We sure do have cappy units like witches and Hellions (both are just too fragile and don't deal enough damage for their points) but we have many lances, a buttload of Haywire and a fully kitted Archon can take a demon prince.
So rejoice! You're part of an elite circle with not the best codex but the best models in the entire range!

| Welcome to the dark city! I too was drawn in to collecting Dark Eldar by their models, which are some of the best in GW's range IMO. Playing dark eldar is 40k on hard mode, as they are fragile, unforgiving and not extremely powerful. However they are fun and once you have played a few games and mastered your own playstyle you will find they are incredibly fun and rewarding to use, constantly testing your skill as a general and rewarding good play. All I can say is enjoy your games, win or lose, and this hobby will be much more rewarding for you SC | |

| Thanks, CptMetal and Spellcheck! I'm actually looking over my future army-in-boxes as I type this. - CptMetal wrote:

That's really interesting! I've been looking into Grotesques for their stats, but I just haven't felt the same love for coven models the way I do for Kabalites and Wyches. Converting models from another range seems like a great workaround. Do you have any pictures/posts chronicling the project?
