Ok, first things first, Let us start with some storytime.
Ok, so I played a game today. I had my usual army; 4 flyers, pair of murders of scourges, reavers, and minimal troop (1 blaster-venom, 1 gunboat + haemi in gunboat), but with a dark twist.
The map looked awesome, but didn't have much cover. The "Realm of Battle" hill tiles where put to form a s-shaped valley with some flat-topped rock-pillars/Hills like islands, and some radioactive-green sludge pools, like a dried up river. Think Grand Canyon. It was awesome.
My opponent played Tau. Static Gunline Tau. With Ion-cannon hammerhead, anti-air broadsides, ion-cannon + shield riptide and Punisher cannon fortification which was placed next to a mysterious objective, which just happened to be a skyfire nexus. And cover-ignoring missiles.
We got deadlock, and he got first turn, so he castled up everything in a circle formation in a corner.
I put all but troops and reavers in reserve, and hid the rest as far as I could, trying to survive long enough for the reserves to arrive,
Anyhow, He played static, so with exception for some big guns, he couldn't target anything, and neither could I. His Stealthsuits DSed into my deployment zone, but I killed them.
Then most of my reserves came. The scourges missed with almost everything. I rolled really bad this game, worse than usual. The flyers only chipped away stuff, (and helped to take down the stealthsuits), but it was a losing battle. Scourges failed at everything. Blaster-venom never moved more than 6" from starting position during the entire game. Gunboat stood in the background. Flyers mostly jinked, although my RJF with sc+ 2 dissies did some kicking.
And then turn 3 happened. My Dark Artisan used her WWP and landed right in the middle of the tight circle formation. They shot at the Punisher-cannon; (Although targeting the punisher-cannon)the syphon killed enough adjacent fire-warriors to make them stop occupying the Objective, and the Talos' HL blew up the Fortification. This in turn let my Reavers Turbo-boost and grab said Objective while the blaster-venom held an other, achieving both control objective X And Supremacy TO.
Then he shot with all but 2 units at my Dark Artisan. This was just enough to kill the cronos, but leaving the rest of my army untouched.
Then I charged his rip-tide, and got overwatched by half his army; And not a single wound was taken. Both failed to kill anything, and luckily for me, my dark artisan wouldn't be shot at. He shot at everything else, wreaking and killing poorly performing thing. Then, his turn, My talos killed his riptide in cc, and, my turn, assaulted and smashed the hammerhead to pieces.
Then the game ended due to random Game Length. 9-9 he thought. I pointed out my Dark Artisan: Linebreaker! (10-9)
It was a victory for DE. All thanks to a single Formation.
And now, My Question:
Anyone ever tried multiple WWP Dark Artisan formations, like a Dark artisan Art-school/Art-house/Art collective? Is it a good idea? Is more than 2 overkill? What more should I have in such an army (Preferably Haemonculi coven)? the Corpsethief claw formation looks cool, but slow, and adding a harlequin cast of players could speed them up a bit doesn't seem like a good idea. I personally prefer the Path of Heroes formation. Grotesquerie? (I already have 8 finecast grotes lying around) Scalpel squadrons?
