| Hey all,
Can units from the apocalypse book be taken in a standard 40K game?
The unit in particular I wanted to know about is the 'nid Barbed Hierodule

| No. "Forge the narrative" and discuss it with your opponent blah blah blah.
Anything marked Apocalypse is for Apocalypse, and anything marked 40k expansion or Escalation is legal for use in 40k at almost all competitive levels

| I think amorrowlyday is recalling more from the 6th edition and earlier days when GW/FW did actually kind of separate them out. This is not the current method as far as I am aware, and units are not really labeled as for one or the other.
In the most direct sense the "rule" to control this is found in the core rulebook in the begining of the "choosing your army" chapter wherein basically it says both players need to agree on if any restrictions apply to choosing models. Apply a restriction of 'nothing from the Apoc book' and Bob's your uncle.
Also, I would note that the Barbed Heirodule is not a Lord of War, so, by definition, if your opponent does take it, his army is Unbound and the appropriate restrictions apply.

| what do you mean it is not a lord of war?
I don't have the apocalypse book. So can't check. But I use army builder and it shows it as a lord of war (not that I totally trust army builder).
Any direction to specific references in the apocalypse book would be appreciated. Thanks!

I will agree that a non-GW product and non-GW rules reference potentially lists it as a lord of war. If you had the Apoc book you would see it is classed with no Battlefield role at all beyond super-heavy MC. Since there is no Super Heavy MC slot in a CAD or any other formation or detatchment available to the Nids (at least that I am aware of) to field the Barbed Heriodule would then require them to be Unbound. Being Unbound is not an issue at all in Apoc. It is an issue in "regular" 40k. - Silverglade wrote:

Just the Barbed Heirodule entry. I mean, just as a counter question - what is you opponent claiming about the Barbed Heirodule? Is he claiming it is legal for 40k? (functionally it is as long as you agree with him) Is he claiming it can work with a CAD? (it can't - and you should be asking him why he thinks it does) Is he claiming something else?

| I was unaware it had been updated since Apoc - in that case it is a Lord of War and fits fine in a CAD. | |
