Once upon a time, several years ago, Hasbro DID make a bid for Games Workshop, but it was a fairly half-hearted one. At the time Games Workshop was fairly strong, and I think were in the bait of buying things themselves (such as a small American card game company who produced a 40k card game, which then sort of disappeared into the ether) so the attampt to buy GW went away.
Its been argued that this was more an attempt by Hasbro to gauge the rising potential of a competitor in the UK.
BUt ever since this comes up every now and then anyway, and sometimes theres an element on truth and other times its just a fabircation. As a sort of "from a friend" anecdote, I knew a guy who bought a few shares in GW thinking it would keep him informed of the company goings ons, and he once told me that he had received a letter from Hasbro offering to buy his shares. He didn;t have very many and wasn;t being offered a lot, but it sounded like Hasdro were at the time targetting several small share owners to see what they would add up to together. This was the late 90's though.
Back in March there was a heavy kurfuffle through GW in the states and Canada when a fax was sent around sayiong Hasbro HAD just bought a controlling share in GW, but that turned out to be a prank by a Canadian staff member.
