Scrapping Together a Decent List (1500-2k pts)

Hey all,

I took a hiatus from 40k earlier this year, and I'm ready to get back into the swing of things. Unfortunately, I'm very rusty and unsure where to start with building an army list. I've acquired a lot of new models since I stopped playing, so many of them I've never fielded/fielded very little. I'm not asking for people to build a list for me (although if you feel so inclined, I would not protest) but rather give some direction on a good base, so that I can fill in the gaps.

Here's what I have in my DE collection currently: (Counts-as is fine as long as they are similar, i.e. Wych as a Lhamean, etc.)

I realize the vehicle department is where I'm lacking the most, getting more Venoms is on the to-do list. My initial thoughts were running a Grotesquerie with Urien + 4 Grots in a Raider and a Haemi + 4 Grots in the other Raider, running the Razorwing/Scourge/Blasterborn in a Venom as dedicated Anti-tank, and filling the gaps with a ton of Reavers with Cluster Caltrops. I know my options are limited, so I really want to be able to get the most of out of my points when I get back in the game. Any input is much appreciated!

I like the grot situation you have going on very nice. I like to run a succubus or archon kitted out with incubi. It does some nasty work

It really depends how you like to play.
You've got a buttload of bikes, so that can work well.
You've got the beginnings of anything you really would like to work with, so go ahead and pick a direction you'd like to go

The problem is, I don't really have a way I like to play, yet. To be honest, after my first month playing, I started losing. A lot. It's honestly one of the things that put me off of the game. Here I was trying to scrap together a list out of whatever I had, and I was getting stomped by Flyrant spam, Daemon/Imperial Knight, and GK tourney lists. I always want to do fun lists with tons of Reavers and a very fast, mobile army, but oftentimes it didn't work out. I did much better in 2v2 than on my own. I'm concerned that something I come up with entirely on my own is going to be considerably lacking, given recent hiatus and general lack of experience.

I've heard good things about the Grotesquerie, so I think that's my best starting base. It might not be very viable, but I could certainly go for a mobile, assault/objective-based army that looked something like this:

Urien + 4 Grots in a Raider with Nightshields and DL
Haemi + 4 Grots in a Raider with Nightshields and DL
Archon with Huskblade and Shadowfield + 4 Incubi in a Venom with Splinter Cannons

5 Scourge with Haywire blasters

Reavers to taste with Heatlances/Blasters and Cluster Caltrops

I'd be able to run around the map grabbing objectives, tying people up in melee, and screening my squishy HQ's and transports with the reavers, then charge at the already-occupied enemy with the Grots/Incubi. Could be fun!

I guess my question is how many points u looking at? I would say have the 5th incubi and Kalivex with a raider sail and ns like the grots do. probably want some ravager support as well

At my FLGS, it's choose your own point value, which while nice, means I have to have several lists ready to go. I hear that 1500 is the most commonly played point value, but I'll probably whip something up for 1850 as well, and maybe 2k. I've got plenty of Jetbikes and other nonsense to fill in the gaps, so like I said, I'm just trying to get a good 800-1200 TAC base that I can add units to as needed for higher point value games.

Unfortunately I only have 5 Incubi including a Klaivex, and two Raiders, so I couldn't give them a Raider if I'm giving the grots the Raiders. Sadly I don't own a Ravager, so that's not an option for Heavy Support.

Well you have a solid start just lacks anti tank in my opinion

At a first glance you could probably run something like:
Realspace raiders
2x 10 kabalites in raiders with racks and lances
Incubi in venom with 2 cannons
Razorwing with lances
Succubus with glaive
Scourges with haywire
4x 6 bikes with caltrops and Blasters (I'm assuming you like bikes)

Grotesquerie with urien (Succubus to go with other squad)

However, you'd need 2 more raiders to house the grots
