Schock prow and Ravager/Raider Empty
PostSubject: Schock prow and Ravager/Raider   Schock prow and Ravager/Raider I_icon_minitimeWed Jan 20 2016, 09:56

Hello guys,

Could sb provide me a clarification on the following thing?

In BRB, Vehicle chapter, it says:

Moving Flat-out
A vehicle can elect to move Flat Out instead of firing in the Shooting phase, immediately moving up to 6"; this move triggers Dangerous Terrain tests as normal. A Tank cannot move Flat Out in the same turn that it performs a Tank Shock.

In our Codex, Dark Eldar Vehicle Equipment, it says:

Shock Prow
A vehicle with a shock prow can Tank Shock and Ram even if it is not a Tank. In addition, when the vehicle executes a Ram, it is treated as having a front Armour Value of 14 when working out the effect of the Ram upon both the vehicle and its target.

Does that mean that with Raider or Ravager (they're fast, open-topped, skimmers, not tanks), we can both Flat-out and Tank Shock?
After all, that rule under Moving Flat-out concerns only tanks, thus Ravagers/Raider, not being a tank, should not be affected.

I started out tring to argue the point, but it really isn;t clear enough......

THe key argument against is a tad flimsy, beasuase its based on:
p75: "A vehicle can elect to move Flat Out instead of firing in the Shooting Phase,"
amd
p92: "When moving a vehicle with the Tank type, the player can decalre that it is going to attempt to Tank Shock or Ram instead of moving normally."

That to me sounds like it can (and very likely was intended) to mean that Tank Shock and Ram are performed in the Movement Phase, when you would move normally, and Flat Out is performed in the Shooting Phase instead of firing. Thus you couldn't Flat Out and Tank Shock, because the time for Tank Shocking is in the Movement Phase and that time will have passed. It is not the action of Flat Outing that prevents Tank Shock, but the action of having Tank Shocked that prevents you from Flat Outing.

You're right.

In subchapter called Tanks, there's:

Tank Shock Restrictions
A vehicle that has performed a Tank Shock cannot move Flat Out later in the turn. (...)

I guess it's clearly stated here - a vehicle. However, you took the matter from another point of view. Nevertheless, it is suggested by this sentence that first, you do Tank Shock and then Flat Out.

Thanks for input. Smile

And this is essentially why chain snares and shock prows see so little use. In my opinion, the 6th edition rules, based on movement and distance traveled, were much better and introduced some interesting game play given our fast skimmers and aethersails. Additional Flat Out movement made you hit harder which makes sense; you are stomping on the gas to barrel into the enemy at maximum speed...
