| I was not sure where to post this so this area seemed like the most likely since it is in a way a tactic. But I wanted others opinions on it.
So I was at my local shop yesterday and I was looking through the blister packs and I found something. I found an old blister of three third edition grotesques for $14.99. This is my question:
Would it be considered unethical to use these models in a current game?
The reason I ask is because they are technically grotesque models. But being the old models, they are much smaller in size. This would give an excellent assault unit a much smaller presence on the battlefield. Having a smaller model would make them easier to move from cover to cover since you could basically fit the whole squad of three within the area that one current model would occupy.
Thoughts and opinions on this? Is it unethical? Is it a valid tactic? We are Dark Eldar after all.

| Not unethical at all. They are old sactioned grot models thats all. I would ask any opponent if he minded...in a friendly game it shouldn't matter at all. Plenty of guys here use the old talos models and raiders. In a tourny situation I would just double check with the TO to make sure there wouldn't be an issue. | |

| Although it seems that most folks use the old grotesques as Wracks. The names have changes, but the old Grots were the basis for Wracks. | |

| I would not myself. Modeling for advantage isn't a tactic, it's a crutch. | |

| Wouldn't matter much in a friendly game but, you probably should work on getting the current model or converting some. The old models really don't suit the current rules. | |

| In all honesty, I hate the old models. And I would not plan to play with them permanently. But it would be nice to see how grots performed for me before I spent the money for the newer models. | |

If you want to just get an idea of how they would perform in place of more current grotesques, then put them on 40mm bases (and maybe let your opponent treat them as being about 1/2 inch taller than they are for LOS purposes if it ever becomes an issue). Then it's not as much of a 'modelling for advantage' issue. Then, when you're done, put them back on their original bases, chop off the heads and replace them with appropriate masks/helmets, and then use them as wracks.

| You could always put them on the correct size bases and that should be fine as far as i'm concerned | |

| For the record, converting grots will be much cheaper then buying new models. | |

| I don't like finecast, but I am also not confident in my ability to convert models into grots. | |

| Just buy crypt horrors and put the mask on them. Maybe slap one or two pumps on their backs and voila!
I put them into the "tainted Reborn" threat in the "Kabal of the dark city" section. I got 9 of those without much effort.

| They convert fairly easily. Not trying to hijack the thread but has anyone ever done Tyranid warriors as Grotesques? | |

| Very nice, ive been using mine unpainted and without arms, greenstuff/modeling tools coming this weekend.
You can get green stuff and all the tools for like 10-30$ on ebay depending on how advanced you want to be. My research suggests a minimum of a few sculpting tools and a silicone 'shaper' brush, or you can get a full set of each like I did (~15$).
You can get it even cheaper if you go full china.
I was originally intimidated but everyone helped me realize its really not that bad. Got tons of extra talos bits to use. Really excited.

| I Used the WHFB Ogres > https://imgur.com/a/tiZcy I found these to be the cheapest for getting a nice body, I know the Rat are more like the Tim Burtains Bane models, but I personally dont care. They are Human looking, Big and... Grotesques But you want them to be larger than Normal DE models. I wouldnt hold it against you at all. | |

| Thank you all for the inspiring photos of your grots. I will have to take a closer look at some options to see what I can do. | |

| Here's some work I did last night: Still need to touch some stuff up, but this was the first time I have ever even used green stuff. It wasnt easy but it wasnt as hard as I thought. Once I got started it was pretty enjoyable. Didnt realize how much time had past once I started working on them. | |
