Fixing your models to a handle to paint

Hey folks,

I see a lot of people fixing the foot of thier models to pins and pushing the pins into a cork to use as a handle. Anybody know what kind of metal pins people use? Is it a drill bit and screwed into place?

Right now I'm using some wall putty to fix models onto old and empty GW paint pots. Works ok, but gets problematic when I need to paint the feet

I got a big box of sturdy paper clips. Cheap and easy to store. I straighten them out and clip them up in suitable lengths with a pair of pliers. For adhesive you can use blue tack or a very small amount of super glue.
I have big hands so the cork route did not work for me. I made my own handles from old GW paint pots where the paint had dried out. Filled them with sand or water, stacked three on top of each other and duct taped them together. On top I have a large blob of blue tack to stick the model on.

Cool. Thanks for responding! So do you just push the paper clip in there as deep as it will go or do you drill a little pilot hole? Or did I misunderstand and you fix your models to the paper clip with a dab or glue or tack?

GW pots make great handles!

Paper clips, its always paper clips. You need a mini drill, mechanic or electric. GW sell something like this, you can surely find something cheaper.

It depends on what I am fixing on the pin. I usually only fix parts of models on pins. Like arms, guns or heads. Some parts will be OK to drill a little hole in but I usually never bother. Depends on how big it is. Most parts for DE are fairly small. If the part does not have a section that does not need to be painted I fix it with blue tack.
If there is a suitable place (Like the underside of the neck part of a head ), A tiny drop of superglue. But you want to be careful about the amount. Too little and the head can fall off mid paint session and roll off on a little adventure. Too much and ... other fun problems. Long story short, I mostly use blue tack.

Paper clips, paper clips and paper clips. Sometimes you can get these massive reels of wire from hardware stores and builders merchants but they just aren't sturdy enough they're better is your modelling slime or vines.....and I've wondered off abit
