Dark Eldar Kabal of Endless Twilight - HELLIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello all, Some of you might have seen these models on Warseer, or Ammobunker But I'm bringing them over here as well.

Incubi & Drazhar Painted

Here's some pics of the newest finished addition to my Dark Eldar Army; 10x Incubi & Drazhar. I customized Drazhar to make him more current to the new sculpts. Overall, the only thing I wanted to do to make this unit unique is try to make the Klaives & Demiklaives look like they were forged from some bizarre blue alien stone rather than metal. I feel it worked rather well and I'm happy with the final result.

The blue/grey armour is what the rest of my Kabal of Endless Twilight will be painted with. Aside from that I just wanted to try unique feather patterns for each scourge and realistic bone colored helmets.

Ravager

My Dark Eldar Ravager is finished. I was using a similar painting technique to my Voidraven Bomber
The only new technique is that I made a set of decals for the aethersails. I wanted them to look like they were made form some kind of advanced mesh, so a decal seemed the best option. I designed them in illustrator, then printed the decal on a laser printer and applied.

I was having a really difficult time photographing it, I need a better lighting set up, so please forgive any photos that might seem odd. I will probably reshoot later under better lighting conditions.

Voidraven Bomber

This was my first attempt at Airbrushing in terms of miniatures (I've used them before for Art School projects). I laid down a 3 shade blue to black gradient across the model with the airbrush, then hand painted the blue highlights. All My airbrushing was done with Vallejo Air colors.

The Pilot was a 3 shade green to black gradient laid down with the airbrush as well.

The Tribal areas were hand painted first in Mechrite red, then followed by Warlock purple. I wanted to add some battle paint chipping on the front of the Voidraven to look as if it's been flying into things and slicing and dicing for awhile.

The base was made with Scibor Statue ruins, resin skulls, a GW dead Space Marine and a lot of leaf litter.

Reaver Jetbikes

Here's some pics of my Dark Eldar Reaver Jet Bikes for my Kabal of The Endless Twilight. I used the same color palate as my Ravager and Voidraven. The only new things I did with the Reavers was to Airbrush the BladeVanes and use Armorcast Laser Muzzle effects for the engine bursts. I plan to do something similar with my Hellions as well.
























A word of warning to everyone out there. NEVER SPRAY CLEARCOAT IN HUMID WEATHER. After hours of work I sprayed and my revers looked like they were covered in dry milk. It was frightening and nerve wracking. But I was able to repair 90% of the damage by taking them inside to my basement in central air conditioning and spraying fine mists of the same clearcoat over top of the milky stuff. The fresh wet clearcoat ate away at the milky stuff and made it all clear again cause it was allowed to dry in cool low humidity environment.

I broke out my airbrush to try and make a pink crystal type of effect for the Power Sword. It's not 100% what I was going for, but it's close.









Trueborn
The Trueborn I wanted to look like More embellished Kabalite warriors. I wanted them to have a bit more uniformity than the warriors, hence the same helmets and I wanted everyone to have a backvane. I used Wyche backvanes, but played around with adding / removing elements on each vane so they looked unique. I added some skulls here, cut some out skulls/ trinkets there, etc. As far as weaponry, I was going for an anti-infantry with Splinter Cannons and Shredders. I plan to put these guys in a Venom when the kit comes out.

I believe I told you on Warseer I hated you for your awesome painting, and if I didn't I should have.

Wow. I love your Incubi the most. The Scourges are a close second.

How did you get your blues on your klaives?

This looks awesome! The light effects on the reavers, I like especially. How long did this take?

Awesome, awesome work, an army with a well thought out colour scheme and execution; bags of character. Really like your scourges and the Voidraven.

Can you tell me what company makes the shattered faces you've used on some of your bases?

In answer to the blade technique... it's 3 colors and a lot of dots.
Vallejo Turquoise, Vallejo Transparent Azul & Skull White.

I started off by painting the entire blade with Turquoise, then painting little tiny dots on the inside edge with the same color mixed with white, then I did another layer of dots with the Turquoise/white mix only way more white. After it dried, a layer of thinned Transparent Azul. I then repeated the process of adding tiny dots, then another layer of Azul. It kept building translucent layers in the paint.

I gave the whole blade a fine edge of Turquoise/white again to create a defined sharp edge, then highlighted that edge with pure white in a few key areas.

It didn't take long at all actually. I used Armorcast laser Muzzle effects.

I airbrushed them Blue, then white. Then I airbrushed the engine exhausts light blue just on the rim.
I put the Muzzle effect in the engine and Viola.

Haha, no, I meant the whole army, how long that took to finish.

Well I've been working on them since the new Models came out.
I can usually bang them out fairly quick for the amount of detail I try to paint.
Like the Reaver Jetbikes took me 3 days to paint, a few hours each day.

I really can't put an estimate on the number of hours I've spent...but it's been ALOT.

Your army is in my subscriptions list on Warseer, and seeing it here is as good as ever. The army looks great, and like I said on Warseer: I love the almost sad feeling the bases have. Very nice.
It would also be nice to see an army shot some day, it must look pretty impressive with the paintjob you've give the models.

I got all the elites and fast attack, heavy support done...but not the troops

Well, I have an order for those faces from Scibor coming, just in time for my Razorwing. I have the alternatives ones to yours and mine will be a dark slate so there shouldn't be too similar.

But that is what sharing your Kabal is about. Inspiring others.

It's all great! I especially like the klaivex the Archon and finally the pinnacle of your skill the razorwing, wow that is a great paintjob!

When you get a chance, I'd love to see the whole painted product in one shot! Especially if it's on a table or display that matches their bases!

Love the Archon and the exhaust plumes on the Reavers, and the backvanes you created for your Trueborn are terrific as a unit identifier.

But I still think that your design for Scourge helmets are the simply the best, by far. I've been trying to emulate them to some degree, but haven't done anything I'm happy with yet.

Your incubi looks like they belong to the third ed. kabal of the black heart, I love it!
Also kudos on the klaive technique tutorial, I'll have it in mind when painting my own.

This Transport is painted in my Incubi Scheme and not my standard Kabal of Endless Twilight scheme.

I love your shades of blue.

For all those that ask about how I make my Sails for the Raider and Ravager, here's the quick version:

I started by making a tracing of the sail shapes. After I made the tracing, I scanned it in and redrew the tracing in Adobe Illustrator. I then further illustrated the mesh pattern and my own custom DE Glyphs.

Once I was done illustrating the individual sails, they look like this:


I then took them set them up on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper and printed them with a color laser printer on this decal paper:

After printing I followed the instructions that came with the decal paper, and viola! Home made decals for my all my raider
