Dark Eldar - 2k - Hellions List

Hello,

Here's a list I've been working on lately. I've been carefully reading the tactical infos found here and elsewhere to build a list around Baron Sathonyx, Hellions and Beastmasters.

I'll be playing mostly against Necrons and Space Marines. I tried to focus on mobility and range advantage (36' splinter canon against 24' rapid fire from the ennemy).

There is a variation in the list:

1. Aegis defense line to disembark the trueborn and have them use their splinter canons as heavy 6 and benefit from the 4+ / 2+ cover save from the aegis def line.

2. Haemonculus with Webway portal embarked in one of the trueborns venoms (might be risky to only have one so I plan to only use this in missions allowing reserves) >> questions: Do you loose your reserve units if the wwp never reach the table in a mission not allowing reserve?

Hellions should be in reserve and used only to score, not to fight to the exception of decimated units.
Sathonyx goes with Beastpack and should come out of reserve too but only if the webway portal is in the list. Otherwise, no reserve.

Reavers are both AI and AV and should keep turboboosting to bladevane (and get a 3+ cover save) unless a heat lance shot is possible.

I dont like hellions as your only troop choice. They are fragile and cant bring a transport, which is our best things that our troops can bring. You also dont have alot of long range AT, so I feel against any mech units your list will not do well.

But I would say give it a try and see if it works for you. Alot of meta's are different, so give it a playthrough first. Then come back and let us know how it did

The trueborn should be behind the aegis def line, not in their venoms.

Should I drop the 4 reavers Heat lances and invest the points elsewhere now that I've got 13 dark lances total? (like change the icarus for the quad gun?)

it saddens my heart to see a hellion list that isn't all hellions... BUT THAT IS WHERE SKYBOARDS COME IN! you see in order to make them all look like hellions just put a skyboard standing up with the guy's hand supporting it every 2 or 3 models

Well I want a full hellions list!

My plan was to hide them in reserve first then in terrain zones until late game to grab or contest objectives.

I'm mostly playing against Necrons and I need to stay away from 24' rapid fire with my vehicles.
that is why I did not take raiders in the first place.

I might try and build the list as first posted and playtest it as Shadows suggested.

What do you think of the first list?

I like the second list far better. But what you really need is more scoring options. 4 is barely enough for most marine armies out there, and we are far more fragile.

I know you want to run baron with beasts (a great unit) but have you thought about running him with a hellion blob squad??? Its not the same as having MSU hellions, but its still something.

What I would do personally I drop the beasts and reavers, put those points into more hellions in one squad, and then max out your troops with raider squads or venom squads. After that, use whatever points are left over for maybe some reavers or some more trueborn.

I would keep the reavers, but it would be advised what you want to use them for AT of AI eithe drop the heat lances or drop the caltrops - both are a waste as if you plan on bladevaning and using the caltrops you wont be shooting, and if you plan on shooting you cannot bladevane enought to make the points worthwhile.

I would keep the beast but i would definatly want to boost the size of the hellion squard MSU doesnt really work for them as they are to fragile, my preferance is for at least 10 per unit

The problem with keeping both the beast squad and the hellion blob is that baron cant be in two places at once. By doing both your spreading yourself out, and the opponent can just focus fire down the one that baron isnt in. You pick beasts or hellions when using baron... not both
