| Hi all!
I haven't payed much attention to the now not so new anymore tactical objectives deck. I've heard that they're harder to achieve but more rewarding, and was wondering if any of you had used them yet.
I'll be going to a tournament next week, and heard from the TO yesterday that it's up to us which deck to use. I've also heard that a lot of tournament players use them, but yeah, all of that is only hearsay.
What do you think, are they good for us?
Thanks!

| Given the way ObSec works, unless you have allied ObSec Windriders, I'd take the DE specific deck. | |

| For me, the new deck is the go to choice. It fits my personal play style, and should fit with most MSU approaches. It truly is more about taking objectives than completing random tasks.
I guess it depends on exactly how you build yohr army, but a pure DE list appears to be better at taking objectives (not holding them) than actually killing things.

| There is one card in the DE deck that allows your opponent to nominate an objective and one of their characters, which is challenging to achieve. The others are a bit more interesting than secure objective 1 again. | |

| Are the dark eldar cards different than just the regular cards with the changes in the codex for 11-16? I missed the opportunity to buy them in my area and now they have been impossible to find. | |

| No, they aren't. All race-specific cards are just the normal Objective Cards plus the numbers 11-16 that can be found in the codices. The card sets do however contain special other cards. There are six "Doctrina Imperativa" cards in the Ad Mech one. Those aren't objective cards but cards with the special rules the Ad Mech forces can activate. I think the equivalent in the Dark Eldar card deck is that we have one card that displays the PFP chart and six cards that each have a combat drug on them.
So the race specific cards are just tools for when you don't want to look up stuff in the codex. You can just play with the general card deck and when you draw 11-16 you just switch it out for the appropriate objective from the codex.

| Is the cast a psychic power card still in there? if so that would be quite the laugh | |

| Hmm... I don't think so. I don't own the Deldar cards but I do have the Ad Mech cards (surprise). And since the crazy Tech-Monks of Mars don't use psychic powers there is no corresponding card in their deck. Thus I would conclude that the Deldar also do not have a "cast a psychic power" card in their deck. | |

| Casting a psychic power is indeed in the DE deck...
The faction based cards only remove the first six, which are "grab objective X" cards. So all the other special items are still in the deck. Most places I have played allow you to discard impossible tasks, but RAW the DE player would need to cast the psyhic power or discard it at the end of the turn.

| It should be #56 in all decks, Tau, DE, and AdMech included. | |

| Okay, I stand corrected. It may even have happened that I drew that card (playing as Ad Mech) but since it is unachievable without allies I always instantly discard it and thus I don't remember the card (since it is insignificant). | |

| Is that an official rule or a house rule? | |

| Yep. The resident Tau player is very fond of complaining about the "Cast a Psychic Power" card being present in his faction deck. | |

| The official rule is you can discard one objective per turn. A lot of house rules allow the discard of an unobtainable card. | |

Houserule. Albait it was never explicitly declared with anyone I played against. We never said "Hey, RAW would mean that you would have to keep this card and you may only discard it at the end of your turn, even if you couldn't have ever attained it, so let's houserule that". For me it is just common sense. If we play the mission "Deadlock" and at Turn 6 we are both left with 1 card and I draw "Successfully cast a Psychic Ability" and I then lose the game 10 - 11 because I can't obtain the card with mono Dark Eldar then I would be mad since I didn't lose because of a lack of skill etc but because of a stupid card draw on which I had no influence and which I could never achieve. Thus it appears to be common courtesy in my local meta to just redraw until you get an inherently achievable card.

| That's certainly how we've always played it. I can't even believe it's not an official rule. So much for GW's playtesting! | |

Only with armies that matter. So it's generally Marines vs Marines.

| Yeah. I mean when a player draws "destroy a flyer, super heavy, or fortification" we usually say. Mulligan because none of those are in either army.
But I've even seen it a step further, like "control entry objective" when you only have 5 separate units left. It's not possible. Not highly unlikely. Literally never achievable in this game.
