| So, with the most common missions there is some objective placement involved.
My question is, what's your objective placement strategy for a mobile DE army?
Leave some in your deployment zone? Place them as far forward as possible? Place them in far-flung parts of the board? Put them all in the enemy DZ? In the open or with cover? Can it reveal too much about your approach strategy?

| A lot depends upon your list and the opponent's.
Do you have a shooty list or a close combat one? If your list is shooty then, other things equal, have objectives closer to your own DZ. If you expect to be over in the other half of the table anyway, then put the objectives over there too.
Is your opponent an IG/Tau gunline or a short-ranged/close combat threat? Here you want to do what doesn't suit them. If they're a close combat threat it's a bit harder, since putting the objectives in their half of the table makes it easier for them to take and hold - and you'll have to go to them. But if you're up against a gunline then putting objectives in your half, or even mid-table, can force them to come out. | |

| The correct answer is the same as deployment - 'it depends'. I prefer to try and keep them spread out where possible, though. If its a 4 or 5 objective mission, I'll often place one as far away as possible from the others, where my opponents will have to make much more of a commitment than I will to coming after them. Being the most mobile army in the game means we don't really worry too much about getting to objectives, so the best plan is to try and screw over our opponents' plan. If its Emperor's Will, though, then I normally put my objective bunkered as deep as possible in my DZ in area terrain, with a small squad to babysit if my opponent has something that's fast enough to get there and claim it (scoring bike squads, Necrons with veil, etc.), and just go for my opponent's objective. Having a 'set' strategy is a fast road to defeat, IMO. Always using the same tactics and objective strategy is a recipe for disaster, as sometimes your grand plan will in fact better suit your opponent. Overall, pretty much in agreement with Ben_S - you know what suits your list, but definitely bear in mind your opponent's list as well, try and bait them out of their comfort zone.
