Pray they don't take you alive... [Kabal of the Frozen Soul]

Once upon a time (10 years ago), a boy got into the Warhammer 40 000 hobby and his first army was the Dark Eldar... The kabal of the frozen soul.

Once again he picks up this army. Is it because of the new codex? Is it because Arath Kahr'Leth wants his revenge once again on the galaxy? Is it because the miniature range is awesome? Is it because of nostalgia?

Well... ALL OF THEM MELDED TOGETHER! THE MADNESS!

As stated I once again picked up my splinter rifle and here I will show you all the progress with my army.



Let the soul-reaping begin!

11/1: My order arrived from GW, it contained Codex Dark Eldar, a box of Kabalite Warriors, a Raider and an Archon, sweet!

11/2: Assembly started, Warriors and Lord went well though being a bit fiddly, Raider is being a pain in the ass...

11/3: Raider is finished! Can't say I enjoyed assembling it but it was really worth it!

11/4: Painted my test model, turned out ok even though it's a bit monochrome, painting the others as well, I hope to finish all 10 tomorrow.

11/5: 10 Kabalite Warriors finished! Moving on to the raider.

11/6: Raider itself is finished, but I'm off to a party now so I will have to continue on the crew tomorrow.

11/7: Crew finished and I just started painting the Archon, not sure if I'll finish him tonight.

11/8: Finished the Archon and assembled my second newly arrived pack of kabalite warriors and Incubi, 3 raiders to be assembled tomorrow and 6 reavers.

11/9: Picked up my Raider and Reavers at the local hobby store, bought another pack of Incubi and a pack of Wyches as well. I assembled the raiders, 3 in total.

11/10: Assembled the crew for the raiders and assembled another 5 Incubi.

11/11: Assembled my Reavers before I headed to the gaming club to play some Fantasy.

11/12: Assembled the Wyches, basing all unpainted models now and then off to prime them all, painting tonight and tomorrow for my game at Sunday.

11/13: Dropped my Archon today, glued him back together and fixed up the damaged areas. His back-blade got bent so I listened to some advice from some friends and changed it into a grenade launching backpack of doom instead.

11/14: Started painting on the Raiders, slow progress at first but then I watched Lord of the Rings while painting, helped alot! Finished all the highlighting on the raiders during the movie.

11/15: Concidering that the Lord of the Rings helped me out to paint the raiders I started to paint some more while I watched the Two Towers movie, finished all 3 raiders including drivers and gunners.

11/16: While watching Return of the King I painted a full unit of Kabalite Warriors, I think I see a pattern here.

11/17: Had my first game 500 pts, ended in a draw, skipped painting and went to see the new Harry Potter movie instead.

11/18: Had my 2nd game with the Dark Eldar today against an Ork force, Kult of Speed based list, lost due to a single Nob surviving who held an objective, no painting today.

11/19: Started painting on the Incubi, but got bored after highlighting on the first 3.

11/20: I highlighted the rest of the Incubi and started painting their helmets but got distracted by Nier and the movie Dog House later on.

11/21: Finished the Incubi unit, started painting the Wyches, should be finished tomorrow or tuesday.

11/22: Finished the Wyches, not quite satisfied with them but they will do.

11/23: Highlighted my first reaver, slaved infront of my NES after that attempting to beat Castlevania.

11/24: Finished the test model for my reavers, tried red hair and liked it, highlighted the rest of the reavers.

11/25: Finished all the reavers, bought tons of stuff and almost finished with the assembly.

11/26: Ravager, 10 Mandrakes and 7 Hellions assembled,primed them and started painting the Ravager and the 10 Mandrakes at the gaming club.

11/27: Finished painting the Ravager and the Mandrakes around 5 am, went to the couch in the gaming club and slept til 11 am.

11/28: Converted Urien Rakarth slightly to use as my own Haemonculi or Ancient Haemonculi.





10/14: Bought a couple of Warriors, Ravager and a Venom, got them assembled and built the warriors as Kabalite Trueborn. Also converted myself a Duke for later use.

10/15: Finally took my old project log and posted it here.

Cool. Looks like your skin tone has a slight bluish tint. What grey are you using?

Great colour scheme Shinobi, it all works together really well and you've done a top job with it! And it certainly does have an 'Arctic' feel to it.

I agree with the Evil Elf, your skin tone is particularly nice - a haunted quality to it.

Hello!

I recently got back in action since the6th edition arrived.

I've been playing a lot to get back in touch with the army (failed miserably since I only face Tau and Space Wolves), but also painted quite an amount of models.

I only got one picture of a trueborn this far, but I'll get some on the full units someday soon.



I've painted a full unit of dakkaborn, 2 venom squads, a 20 man squad with sybarite, blaster and 2 dark lances, razorwing, the Duke, 2 sniper haemonculi, master haemonculus and added some Incubi Darkness to all models on certain bits.

I finally got around to take some pictures of both old and new units.

I even updated the old pictures, I'll get those up as well.

Wow, that's a lot to take in! All great stuff of course, but I really like the usage of the old female archon's lower half and HE mage cloak on the Duke conversion. NICE

And thanks ESE~ I'm glad you did notice it, there's not many of the local gamers here who can tell (well, they never payed any attention to DE before 2010) that it's the female Archon legs.

What can I say Shinobi, that is a massive effort you have put in here and the end result is a gorgeous-looking army. Well done mate!

And yes, your Sliscus model is a great fig, would love to see that on the tabletop.

I recently bought my friend's complete DE collection (actually both lance-Ravagers and striped reavers are from it, so they're recently painted).

Here's a small update.

I just finished painting my version of Baron Sathonyx~

Great stuff here! I don't know how I missed the update on the test Scourge, but I really like the effect on the wings.

I'm currently painting up a troupe of Harlies for this weekend as I'm going to host a small event for 4 gamers and we all get to play a game of 1500 points against each player.
I've been having my Harlequins laying around for some time, and as one of the others play Chaos I feel the need to use them (fluff) as well that we talked about Dark Eldar having outrageous (not always game breaking, but we have them) saves throughout the army (Shadowfield, Harlie's with Shadowseer in cover, the Baron joining a unit "going down" in area terrain gaining a total of +3 to their cover saves, flickerfields, feel no pain etc), and just to nudge at this discussion I'm "theming" my list this weekend for outrageous saves, so a 20 blob of warriors will hang around in area terrain with the Baron as my harlies will advance for starters.

Enough talk, here is the test mini.





I did not really want to paint checkers and stripes all over the model, but I wanted it to be colorful, or at least more colorful than the rest of my army, so the main colors I'll be using on my Harlies are black clothes, Incubi Darkness masks/shoulderpads/kneepads and white collars, and each Harlequin will have it's own combination of colors.

Hmm I was almost certain that I had read about which bitz you've used to convert your Duke. But now I can't find it. Where did you get those shoulder guards and cape?=)

The duke has the cape from the Island of Blood High Elf Mage.

Just finished painting the rest of the Harlequins and the Talos.

I couldn't give the Harlies as much love as the first model, but they all look ok together, and more importantly, fit into the army.

The Talos shows the colors of the Coven that my Archon is in lieu with.





Probably the best 5 hours spent at the painting station this week!

Very well done sir! I really like the black blended to turquoise look on the armored carapace of the Talos and Cronos. You have truly done these beautiful models justice

I highly approve of this plog.

I like the contrast between the black and the white, its simple and effective. I also like the consistency of theme throughout.
