Problems with Grotesques Empty
PostSubject: Problems with Grotesques   Problems with Grotesques I_icon_minitimeTue Jan 31 2017, 18:55

Has anyone else had problems fitting their Grotesques together? I ordered mine last week and when I went to put them together they were an awful fit. The bodies were about 3mm away all round from fitting to the legs, one was bent slightly along the spine, and they all had loads of flash on the stomachs that i cant seem to get rid of.

Since they are finecast I can't say this is surprising. I don't think too many people have bothered buying the GW grotesque models partly out of fear of running in to the problems you are describing.
You are never going to get the same fit as you would with plastic kits, but it sounds to me that you got a miscast. I would try talking to GW or the seller to see about a replacement kit if I were you.

Its just a real shame. I ordered three in order to make a basic unit but each has varying problems. I wouldn't be so annoyed if one was miscast - but all three!
Like you say though, I've contacted GW to see if they can do something for me. I just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue and how they overcome it

It's not called failcast/finecrap for nothing.
I had an Archon with a hole right in his face because resin bubble.
Anyway, i guess greenstuff is the way to go.
Use it to fill the seams maybe?
Never worked with it, maybe someone who has enlighten us?
Also i've heard hot water can be used to heat the resin, then bend it back into shape.

I've already started with the greenstuff. I've had to use a blob on each body just to join them together.

I guess I've learnt not to buy the finecast models again!

Most learn this the hard way.

If you don't get a replacement, green stuff is the way to go. Regular for big gaps and liquid for hairline cracks/bubbles.
If the pieces is bent out of shape, you can bend them back by warming them up with hot water. I used the hottest setting from the faucet last time. It makes the resin soft enough to gently bend it to shape. It will usually reset back to wonkyness when it cools down again, but usually a little straighter than before. So repeat the process until you are ... less annoyed with the shape. And of course be careful not to over-bend or snap your mini.

The other option is to go down the converting route with Crypt Horrors and leftover Talos bits Smile cheaper for 3 too.

Personally, I won't touch Finecast stuff with a bargepole...

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Ive just had an email from GW - they are sending me out some replacements. Hopefully they will be a better build.

I might consider doing some conversions as some of you have suggested. I could then run them as a coven detachment which would be interesting

Yes definately convert them. You could use leftover talos tentacles etc to replace the dodgy arms/legs and it would make the unit much more interesting, as their is only one pose for the finecast one

I found that frustrating. I find it silly to have only one pose for a model with a 3 model minimum unit.
I was thinking that a ork warboss could make quite an interesting grotesque. Might be a little bigger though

Yeah it is certainly a kit that needs a multi part plastic kit badly. Give the orc.boss a go, you never know till you try, and with lots of DE bits I think it could work Smile
