Well! That was a hell of a ride. I'm actually really happy with what happens there

Good points:

1. It's not all happy-clappy in Eldar-land
2. The Ynnari aren't glorious saviors, they cause quite a lot of carnage and seem to be a bad thing for Craftworlds to have around. Plenty of reasons for Eldar not to like them
3. Commorragh lives, as far as I can tell. Battered, bruised and in turmoil, but not destroyed.
4. The gave Ahriman some nuance! Endlessly happy about his motivations being more than a greedy search for power
5. Yriel's just an awesome character
6. The Avatar did something! As in actually did something impressive! It is the End Times indeed!
7. Both sides of the Eldar/Human alliance thing aren't happy clappy either! The Eldar are true to their manipulating ways, and the humans are belligerent as always. The event actually feels relatively true to the xenophobic nature of 40k.
8. It's really, really nice to read a story without Space Marines wedged into it.
9. It's actually a good story!

Not happy the way Vect acted/reacted? in the story, makes him look like chump IMO. I mean he didn't save commoragh, some mandrake character with no model pretty much did. Pretty much all the phoenix lords swearing alliance to Ynnari so quickly seemed a bit much as well, again imo.

On a positive note - As mentioned above, Commorragh lives which is a good thing.

So the day is saved by a special character with no model, whose rules were removed in our current edition, and his horde of models who comrpise a single unit not usually considered a decent unit (though people who think that are wrong)?

Huh.

Could we be seeing more of thre Mandrakes now that they have a Monarch?
Could that aside be a setup for something in the pipeline?
That would be interesting.


My perfect world based on the tenuous links I see: Yvraine causes the birth of Ynnead's Avatar, so maybe what we need is a triumvirate of Avatars? Would make a nice Formation. Ynnead, Khaine, and the Laughing God maybe? Born through Malys and her crystal heart?
Her, Vect hunting Yvraine, and a new Mandrake Monarch?

One interesting thing I saw was that the big combined forces detachment from Fracture has been leaked, and like the Castlellans Detachment allows Eldar, Dark Eldar and Harlequins, but from the Dark Eldar choices theres obviously no Coven units, but also no Incubi or Drazhar. So what the hell happened there?

Yeah the impression I got was that it's setting up something down the pipeline about a Dark Eldar/Covens/Mandrakes style army book. Love the idea behind Mandrakes, and always thought there was untapped potential for them

I'll bet we'll get a Mandrake King model at some point which would be epic...

Agreed that Vect didn't come off particularly well, although he did manage to station his rivals around Khaine's Gate when it breached. Plus, as far as I'm concerned Vect still has badass status from this quote:

'What fool would plan to defeat their enemy by dying forever themselves?'

Badass.

Mind blown.

Also, having your Head canon become actual canon two years later is an immensely satisfying feeling.

But that Thousand Sons bit, though? Savage!!

Incubi are included in the Ynnari, they are a unit in the Soulbound Vanguard detachment. The Visarch has his own retinue of red incubi.

I like the new story btw from the cursory read I gave it to avoid too much spoiling, I looks like a lot of elements of the Path of the DE series has been maintained and even added upon in this book. I really enjoyed reading the dysjunction chapters in the Path books so hopefully this book describes the Daemonic invasion in detail.
