| So the Reaper Chainsword, if you get 4 attack 3 hit and 2 wounds go through, is that 12 wounds or 6 wounds? | |

I'd say 12 wounds, 6 per successful To Wound roll. - Eldur wrote:

They damn well better be nasty, as Marines (surprise, surprise) all just got an extra attack each in close combat.

| I find it very interesting that the Chainsword is essentially +1 Attack, which makes me think that maybe an extra attack for two close combat weapons may be on the way out. | |

Assault Marines got scarier. Lots of atacks, +pistols.

I'm guessing it's because you can shoot pistols in cc now so they don't give the extra attack.

/sarcasm If they don't get something significant then Wyches will be relegated to the shelf once again. They desperately need something to massively boost damage output and swapping a melee attack for a shooting attack with a Splinter Pistol is only scratching the surface.

| The article says dedicated cc units will be extremely killy, facetious comments aside I expect something more than a -1 rend on 2 weapons per squad. | |

| It wouldn't make sense if wyches had only 1 attack and no other bonus... Well, apart from No Escape and 4++ in combat. If this turns to be the case, they wouldn't be a threat at all in CC.
Any guesses to agoniser, lhamean knives, electrocorrosive whips, etc?

| I'm guessing that wychknives will also grant +1A. Either that, or they'll just give wyches 2A in their statline.
In any case, I don't think that this is going to grant marines any more attacks than they already have. They probably just had to give the chainswords that bonus so that assault marines would maintain the same number of attacks under the new rules that they had before.

| It feels from what we've heard so far that this edition is going to be a massive bloodbath, more shots per unit, splitfire, heavy units dishing out damage on the move, tougher armor saves generally etc | |

| I'm currently thinking that Wyches in 8th would do better with many more attackes, rather than few but pstrong. | |

Not to mention this pistol attack happens at the NEXT turn.

| ... So a very quick question ... How do we know that in 8th edition only one wych per squad can take Hydra gauntlets and razor flails? WE DON'T, so it isn't necessary fair to say wyches still aren't good plus we know NOTHING about any other weapons they can take, honestly just based on what I've seen I will be playing my wyches as much if not more in 8th then I did in 7th, and so far I've played a good 70% of my games with a close to full wych army in 7th and done just fine but that's probably because I am not a competitive player so I will continue to use them ... And probably be the only idiot to run a whole combat list that uses ONLY our vehicles in close combat because I think it would be funny as hell ... | |

| Witches can be great on this edition already. With the correct roll for drugs and if you wait long enough for power from Pain. | |

| I'd honestly be shocked if Wyches didn't get poisoned close combat weapons as standard, assuming poison is still a thing. I'd also be shocked if they were still 10 points a model. This update just looks like an excuse to talk about chainswords though, and there's never a bad time to talk about chainswords.
edit: Baby showers might be a bad time to talk about chainswords.

| I still remember my first chain sword. It was navy blue and had those funny lights that made a loyalist go crazy. It even had a removable god sticker!
Ah. Those were the times.

edit: Baby showers might be a bad time to talk about chainswords. Well, prepare to be shocked. I'm sure they won't for multiple reasons: 1) Kabalites already are the Troop choice for delivering poison. From a gameplay perspective it does not make sense to have a mirrored unit that does the same in CC. 2) It would also overlap with the job of Wracks.

| Nearly every infantry-held gun in our army delivers poison. Wyches carry pistols that deliver poison. Splinter weapons were given poison in 5th ed. For all we know, all our melee weapons might gain poison in 8th. | |

| If poison remains I could see it being our army wide "thing" even more than it is now. Like Wyches getting it, and Wrecks getting a better version of it. | |

^This or possibly Wyches get 3 attacks base. That is my guess. That number of attacks makes them perfect for taking on Swarms since they have no Rend on their melee weapons. Incubi for Elites, Wyches for swarms and tying up units, Hellions for all-rounders that don't need to worry about relying on a transport, Reavers for bringing melee to backfield units or Special weapons like Heat lances and Blasters to big things. But honestly I'm just talking out of my butt. At the absolute minimum I think Wyches will have 2 attacks base. No other explanation could exist for "most improved unit." I will be so disappointed if they merely get what we've seen, along with marginally better Combat drugs and a price reduction and called it a day. But I also highly doubt that heh heh heh...
