Played 4 games. My new favorite tactic is to have a venom light up some infantry, then use it in the assault phase to charge a tank or other vehicle. If they move out, they cant shoot. If we do, we shoot as normal.

I denied an almost entire army of IG tanks the ability to shoot with this tactic.

Not a bit.. lost 1 venom to overwatch out of 20+ assaults over 3 games. Our 5++ and them needing 6's make our boats pretty survivable in assault.

I really don't think Kabalite gunboats are out. Having two squads with Blasters in a boat is great as a pseudo Ravager that also puts out a hail of anti-infantry fire. Plus you can drop a team off at a point and still have 50% effectiveness.

Maybe people are having a different experience than I am, but I still feel that Kabalite squads in transports are the workhorse of my army.

Why bother buying the upgrade for them if you're going to do this, just buy another scourge - same shots within 18 inches and you get an extra wound
