Kabal of Shattered Thorns Update 1 March - 1750 finished!

I thought it was about time to start a log of my work...

First up, the name...

After putting WIP of my archon a number of commets like "very CWE scheme" cropped up and seeing as my first fully painted army was Biel Tann CWE some 10 years ago, i thought the name should match the colours....

The Kabal of Shattered Thorns was born...

The Kabal uses the attacks by Biel Tann as a way of covering its own operations and redirecting Imperial aggression towards the well defended craftworld. Primarily a space fairing kabal, it's fleet includes a number of captured Craftworld vessels alongside its more traditional ships which futher reinforce the Biel Tann image they present to outsiders.

The Kabal has ties to the wych cults and the haemonculus covens and is generally accompanied by a selection of these forces on the field of war in a mutually beneficial arrangement of slave and soul trade.

As a bonus i thought i would show off my old Dark eldar forces... now used until new units are painted at which point these get retired...

I like your scheme very much, as I believe I mentioned somewhere else too. If it was here or on Dakkadakka, now..?

The Archon, I have some critics on though. While he is well painted, I somehow feel though that he is not, um, spectacular enough or how I should say. Just two knives for weapons, and there's nothing particularly eye-catching on him... I think he should have at least something on his back, or maybe a helmet - still, it is just me. But he doesn't really feel like an Archon...

The Faceless however looks great - killer poses, nice headswaps and very well painted.

I agree Sarriss is a little on the bland side... he will end up being relegated to either trueborn dracon or just used when i feel like it. He was more about testing the scheme. I liked the idea of 2 curved knives so thats what he got... kinda like i can kill you with just this little knife... I run him as an agoniser right now and no one has said boo to that...

I am currently working on a new archon, his incubi bodyguard, a couple of venoms, a razorwing and a beastmaster pack... lots to do especially with a tourney in 3 weeks!

I see, sounds good. I'm looking forward seeing it.

I'm doing the same thing. Old habits die hard? I think my old models are plotting to murder the new shiny ones though...Oh the wackiness of Commorragh!

I love the old metal Talos, I really do. If one incredibly fragile, frustrating to build model could ahve gotten me to ply DE, it would have been that.

Painting the razorwing flocks and beast masters now... along side the second unit of kabalite troops...

Hur-hur, I love those Clawed Fiends, haven't got one yet myself. Yours looks good!

I really like your green colour scheme, it's very different and very distinctive, and you have really done a very nice job with it.

The Venom is very clean and crisply done, but it doesn't seem to have quite as much shading and highlighting as your Warriors and other figs(?)

Your new army will look great when it is all together.

The fiend was a heap of fun to paint - a really nice mini and suprisingly well balanced for a large metal mini.

Yeah, the venom is a very smooth model compared to my vypers so the shading is kinda well... almost not there! The flash washes it out a bit though.

With the highlights, i try and stick to hard edges mostly and then its a less is more approach for my tastes

The razorwings are almost done and i have the next 5 kabalites plus venom ready to go... plus 5 incubi converted and assembled, a razorwing wanting my attention and then mandrakes and a FW reaper...

Here we go again - my Baroness Sathonyx - an old hellion mixed with the dark elf morathi model!

Well... Although I frankly must say I despise that model, still... Smart conversion, well painted.

I had the conversion from way back in the day and needed a baron for a tourney - hence the use...

She will be replaced but for the time being...

Fair enough; if you want a baron(ess) with that kind of head, perhaps you should check out the Dark Elf lord on black dragon? It has somepretty neat heads, I think.

The better question is how much fun was it when i used the dremmil at 12000 rpm to cut it in half!!!

I've never been a fan of the old school models, barring a few, but you've done a good job there. The green on the newer models looks excellent and always good to see something different from dark Eldar from time-to-time

Still some freehand to do on a couple of the vehicles... snakeskin pattern on the wrack venom, some white tribal stuff on the green vehicles and runes of khaine on the incubi raider.

All the crew match the unit they are with for the vehicles (the female venom pilot and the wrack pilot were painful!) and each unit is distinct without needing markings

Awesome work on the duke there, it almost(!) makes me want to paint something green!
