Understrength units

Page 242 – Understrength Units
Change the second paragraph to read:
‘If you are using Power Ratings, you must still pay the Power Rating cost as if you had a minimum-sized unit, even though it contains fewer models. If you are using points, you only pay the points for the models you actually have in an understrength unit (and any wargear they are equipped with). An understrength unit still takes up the appropriate slot in a Detachment.’

so we can get 4 incubi for the cost of 4 and use them as bodyguards, or you could buy 1 scourge with a DL and only pay 37 pts. This could be good on other units too. we can make battalions really easy now.

oh, and could you take a unit, take 0 models, and pay 0 points and thus filling bout a detachment slot, them we could have lists like

battalion

Archon-0pts (no model) or 64 pts if its wrong

troops
kabalites: 1 w/Dl- 27 pts
x12

elites
trueborn w/dl-33 pts
x6


FA
razorwings x6

heavy
ravagers x6

transport
18 venoms.

with outrider, vanguard and spearhead, this could get very spammy. it also eliminates taxes if my interpretation is correct (you take the slot, but take 0 models and pay 0 points but as it says, it takes a slot.)
it probably should say you must take 1 model, but still. I bet @TeenageAngst would love to see this.

You clearly cannot use no archon or 12 single model kabalite units, because if you have 12 kabalites you can do 2 properly sized kabalites squad. It's pretty clear imho.

The point of this rule is just letting you have ONE unit (per type) under strength, for example three incubi

you mean 4 incubi from the original 5 right? and imo, it's to allow HQ's to ride in transports with the troops.

I was saying three (of the original five) as an example because the previous minimum size of incubi squad was three and many people actually just own three

Once again, misunderstood you, sorry. Does that mean we could make a unit between 1 and max squad size? Like instead of a squad of 5 incubi, if we wanted, we could just take 1 model, like just a klaivex?

It does not say that you have to make as many proper squads as you can.

it never says that you can only have 1 under strength unit of each type of unit.

Sometimes you may find that you do not have enough models to field a minimum-sized unit (this can be found on each unit’s datasheet); if this is the case, you can still include one unit of that type in your army with as many models as you have available.

yes you could have a unit of 1 model, such as a klaivex.

My gaming group has officially voted to ban understrength units from tournaments, club events, and pick-up games at club locations. I suppose we just didn't want the cheese!
