It's been a while since I last posted anything here. I've not played 40k in ages, the last edition I played was 6th. I really disliked 7th and was hoping that 8th would get me back into it, but I don't really like that one either
Still, a friend and I decided to start or expand armies to play with 6th ed rules. I might start playing 8th some day, but for now I'm focusing on painting what I like, expanding my army in accordance with 6th ed army lists and just having fun with the miniatures.

Here's a quick overview of what I got thus far (Not too much change since my last post, but hey, who's keeping score?). I hope the thumbnails work in here:

Time for a much needed update.
I hadn't really painted anything Drukhari- related since my last post, but a week ago I actually got my hands on quite a sweet deal. I bought a bunch of secon hand Drukhari. Sure, a bunch of them have a thick coat of paint on them, but they're soaking in "stripping agent" as I write this post.
I have, however, already been able to paint a few models and the next 9 are standing on my table waiting to get painted.

Here's what I bought (not in the image: 3 Raiders and 1 Sslyth):

And this is the (slightly converted) Archon I am currently working on (along with 8 Kabalite Warriors):



I'll be posting updates as soon as I finish more models.

Another small update. Didn't get any more work done on the Archon, but I did start painting a Raider and the armour of 4 Kabalite Warriors.

I have to say you are very, very good at your painting, all of these look great!

Thanks a lot! Those last minis are actually what I'd consider TTS to even speed painting. I cut a bunch of corners, making the painting more efficient with reduced colour pallet, fewer highlights on skin and hair and leaving out those areas that are barely visible. Still, I'm very happy with the results so far. It's good to finally work on getting a larger army onto the tabletop.

Made some more progress on the next Raider:

Time for another update, albeit not including any progress containing painting.

I have finally come around to buying magnets and started magnetising a bunch of models.
Thus far, I magnetised:
- the weapons, sponsons and sails of my Raiders
- the "underslung" weapons of my Venoms
- the right arm of my second Archon (for a blaster) and the arms of a Sybarite

Here's a picture showing some of that:




I have also laid out a plan of what I want to finish painting until the end of June. If possible, I'd like to finish another Raider, too. But we'll see. Here's the stuff I definitely want to finish:



Additionally, I have upgraded one Warrior of each 5 man Blaster squad to a Sybarite, since they're mandatory in 8th and I want to make them recognisable for fairness' sake:

Next small update:

I gave a few Warriors the Sybarite- upgrade and a Scourge their Haywire Blaster.

Just a tiny update:

I stripped another second hand Raider, magnetised it, re-primed it, painted the bronze areas, gave them a wash and a silver drybrush. Didn't really feel like doing detail work today, so I was actually happy to have such a large amount of miniatures to finish. There's always something you can do.

Another small update:
Got the first two layers of edge highlights done on the second Raider. I know, they're not too clean, but that'll all be fixed later. Right now I'm just happy to have come this far today.

The community may be all but dead, but I'll still keep posting.

If nothing else, it'll kinda help keep up the motivation.

The next few days will most likely be without any real updates, but I'll try to make progress as soon as possible.

Currently working on the skull, after that all I have to paint are the sail's linkage/scaffolding and the "passenger" hanging from the side.

Indeed. Slow and steady wins the race. Although my progress over the course of the last few weeks was probably the fastest it's ever been.

And yes, the pattern is freehand. Not that hard to do, tbh.
Just paint a sequence of vertical stripes along the lower edge, followed by another one like that, but offset and with a bit of space in between the two rows. The lines of the second row should be approx. centre between those of the first one. Then just connect the vertical lines with diagonal ones and rinse and repeat.

Looks great, painted in a good standard, with personal details like the sail freehands... Always fun to see an army growing Can I suggest a 1000 pts army pic?

Unfortunately I don't own a gaming table and won't be able to play until mid-July at the earliest, but I'll fiure something out.
