| I've ordered box Crypt Horrors/Vargheists and I'm about to order another box making my total 6 Clawed fiends once there converted.
Now the question I have is where do I stop? I want about 18 but I not sure how successful there going to be on the table top.
Does anyone have experience with Clawed fiends in 8th?

| Not a single one.
Never used them, they look like they hit harder than Grots in combat, though. And they move farther, so I can't see them being bad
I'd say take your six into a few games and ask your opponents if they'd mind you proxying extras in future (as a sort of "try before you dedicate 6+ hours to modelling them perfectly") I'm sure they'll be fine with it unless its a Tourney.

| Since you mentioned you were doig a beastmaster (Wych Cult) themed army. I think you will have relatively few lance/dissi weapons. Clawed fiends can up to a certain extend replace them (since they hit resonably hard have some ap reduction and deal multiple wounds). I do not think they can replace them completely but can deal with some of the targets, thus making it possible to reduce the amount of kabalite based weapons. But clawed fiends are much harder to alpha strike with, and might have trouble to kill mobile long range platforms. But jeah try out 6 and see how they work for you. | |

| that's the reason for taking so many, it would be more of an attrition army vs a finesse one. between the amount of W and damage output plus the relatively low cost I think they will work. I can screen them with birds to | |

| clawed fiends do seem good on paper. Obviously give them a try. You could use vassal or TTS or just ask a friend if proxying them a couple games is fine. Do you want to stop at 18? do you want to go more? One thing though is many top armies of 40k are going flyer heavy and clawed fiends are 9001% useless against flyers. If it's not a problem in your area and you can play a fun list whenever you want that packs a whallop go for it.
If you do spam them I'm just wondering if you should take the approach you would with razorwing flock spam. Would adding the Yncarne to the list be good since he has a no morale bubble and an additional 6+. If you run him, you could also run maugan ra as a shooting unit. He is very reliable, and will be protected by lots of bodies. He shoots twice, and the yncarne can make him shoot more. I don't know if when he soulburst's he still shoots twice because of his special rule but even 12 shots of rerolling 1's is pretty solid.

Fly units can charge Flyers. As can Hellions (I think I saw a bunch of them in the background of one of your posts, @Bedlam55... correct me if I'm wrong). Anywho, charge the Stormravens with your Razorwings and swamp the objectives with your Clawed Fiends.

| flyers... I have reavers and hellions. At some point I plan on getting scourges to (there beast like aren't they?)
As for Yncarne/maugan ra, he/she/it's out for fluff reasons but thanks for the idea. The ynnari key word on beast will get errata eventually. Weather it's on the Yncarne's aura or simply removing the ynnari key word from beasts altogether it's gonna happen it's only a matter of when. A beast master with the leadership buff/drug should be enough to keep the bird in line as a "tarpit" unit.
I have a converted farseer that's there to doom things just to give my Clawed fiends A bit more punch to.

| I've used one once, it was pretty cool. Tore a commissar in half. If you rush reavers in, followed by birds and hellions, I bet your clawed fiends can sneak in.
Scourges rock! And you can use those wings from vargheists if you want custom ones.
For your list, you might want to use dark lance scourges, have hen roost up high and snipe veichles. I use blaster scourges but I have ravagers for DL

| The difference between a Clawed fiend and a Grotesque is thin, but interesting. - The Clawed fiends are faster, but can't embark in raiders - The clawed fiends have 1 more W, but no inured to pain, and not invulnerable. - Clawed fiends have 2 dmg, but they will not hit on 2+ - Clawed fiends are cheaper, but need a Beastmaster So i think they are pretty much equivalent, and it's a matter of personal preference. | |

| I had 3 Claw Fiends kill a unit of 5 Termies, they are extremely effective with a beastmaster.
The problem is they lack survivability, If you are going against an Alpha strike army it will hurt.
Groteques are only better b.c they can get +1T, PFP and fit in Raiders.
I've used 3 many times and they always do well, but i also have Raiders, Ravagers, Fliers on the table to take the 2st punches.

| I played PL100 against Orks last night, my BM,9RW and 5Fiends hit a frontline of 1 Megadread, 2 Kans and 30 Boys with Painboy, Bosspole and Warboss. The fiends took out the Kans, and put holes in the Dread, the birds halved the Boys, all in their first charge! They finally died in their third CC, but left 1 remaining wound on the Dread, the Boys down to 7, and as a final heroic act my BM jumped the mob, shot the Painboy in the back, then charged him, and with her bare hands hit 3 out of 3hits, al wounded, all unsaved, all Felt Pain!
Definitely enjoying 5 Fiends!
