Absolutely detest it.

This!

Some models that are more solid isnt as bad, but you still get warping, holes, lines etc...

Then some models are just terrible, like Mandrakes and Incubi, all 20 of each that i have that are finecast are broke at this point.

I hate the material as well b.c its harder to work with when everything else is plastic, super glue vs plastic sucks.

And finally, i have to be careful b.c if i leave the models in my care and its hot out (mid summer) the wrap like crazy (Again thicker models dont so much, but any models with a pole/pike/lance/blade/skinny does).

There are many more reason, but over all i hate finecast.

I agree. Finecast isnt good, especially for its price. As @amishprn86 said it does depend on the model. Thick models arent as bad, but any model with a spindley thin part it SUUUCKS. It seems almost un-repairable as well once it breaks. My poor farsight broke at the ankle where all the weight its, and it just refuses to cooperate.

For Tau, the only way I could get those suits to cooperate was to pin them from shin to base.

I'm grabbing a new airbrush just for the army here. I currently run an Aztek, which I mainly use for base coating and camouflage. However, I am now moving into an Iwata Eclipse. The main purpose for that, is my Dark Eldar are going to be my first truly fully airbrushed army (beyond some edging, eye details, ect).

The army is going to be painted in random patterns of yellow and black (hence the theme of hornets). However, I was inspired by a painting tutorial I saw on Youtube, by a guy named "Next Level Painting". He was painting an Infinity miniature.

My Orks are badmoon Orks, painted by brush, in an era where Mustard was very commonplace. I've always wanted to paint an army that is yellow, and I don't mean mustard yellow or a wash, I mean yellow. Real yellow, with depth, and with a contrasting colour, black being the obvious choice. I think one thing about this project that's exciting to me is going to be the Razorwing Jetfighters. I've looked for pictures of them painted in this kind of scheme, and I've not seen it yet. I'm probably going to get two of them, and inverse the colours. One where the main body is yellow and the smaller wings are black, and another where its black, and the wings are yellow. Troops will be a hodge podge of yellow and black, the black applied by brush after the fact.

I'm gonna have 2 archons of course. I'm really hoping he gets more wargear options and buffs once we get a codex. Kabals and Archons are kinda the centre of the Dark Eldar's society. :\

The Reavers I wanna paint mainly black, with the rider being in bright yellow with almost no black, and then just some yellow stripes on heightened parts of the bike, or the inverse of that, depending on the squad.

I'm really hard pressed to think of how I'm going to paint my raiders and Venoms, as it's hard to determine where I should put yellow, and where I shouldn't. I intend to start a painting vlog here on The Dark City, and on my Youtube page.

One thing I would like to do, after my Reavers and Hellions are done, is slowly expand the Kabals (add squads, more raiders, venoms). I really want Plastic Incubi, as I'd easily get 20 of them (1 ten man squad, 2 five man squads), and I'd love to see them come out with plastic Mandrakes, even if I'm probably not going to grab any.

I may also add a small Coven eventually, 20 Wracks, a Talos, maybe some converted Grotesques and a crazy mad doctor Haemonculus.

On a side note. I never do special characters. I don't proxy them, and I don't field them. I don't buy them either, or paint them. I think GW's taken the wrong path with Special characters, and long for the days where they were rarely fielded. I think its better when people make their own characters, and tell their own stories. So my Archons won't be any special characters, or any of my other leaders. Even for my current Archon, I've got bits being ordered in for my first one, and my second will be the same. I'll have pics up in the vlog I'm going to start once I've got everything in order.

I intend to build and paint each unit, one box at a time. So I'm not even going to throw together a big pile of guys first. It's going to be a nice, slow burn. I'm currently doing the same for my Tau.

I'm just hoping that the two Razerwings are going to get enough business done.

I'm really excited to get my new brushes and paints. I just imagine how that bright yellow is going to pop on those Razerwings.

Hey man, idk if this has been mentioned yet but yellow paint pens might help

Also reavers will be fun, sounds like competitiveness isn't your thing, so you might as well do your theme up and wait for the updated codex in a year when they rebalance them.

Wow, honestly this is the best thread we've had in awhile. good work everyone!

To those that have used Reavers, what luck have you had in sniping characters? For me, I've been using them almost as a kamikaze unit that flies in, pops some serious damage onto a character and dies, with maybe a special weapon or two surviving. 1x9 worked ok, but for me, Ynnari works better with 3x3 units all popping in so you can get a couple more shots off with soul bursts. I hate lowering myself to the Ynnari level though...

Do they make their points back? Goodness no. Does it freak out the opponent when your bikes are suddenly in the face of their HQ? You Betcha. Playing Opponents with the same list a 2nd time around makes it much harder to pull that trick off. Gotta pop that bubblewrap first.

Would you ever consider taking a heat lance over a blaster, just to get a higher damage roll. Maybe go 1:2 in a big squad?

I take them as 3 mans with a grav-talon. I do this to tie up tanks. I also give them the +2 move drug.

For Harlequins i do this too, but sadly i stopped playing Reavers b.c Skyweavers are just better in everyway. assault 3 S6 rending, -1 to hit via shooting, a 4++, can advance shoot and charge, can fallback, shoot then charge. it is 45pts vs 30pts tho.

Trying to stay Positive, IMO they work best as a sniper or Tank holder, also as ways objective grabber.

I'm curious if we're going to see new models. I'd be shocked if we didn't get new models when our book drops. There is a lot of Finecast in there, and GW's been marching towards plastic pretty thoroughly.

My guess is that the OLD rumors about the 8th release being plastic SoB vs DE are accurate but were wildly off-base in terms of both purpose and intended release window. Ditto on the modern tantalus scale Dais of Destruction as DE LoW.

Once you consider that the War in the webway release that would be focused on wych cults vs Chaos including Ahriman was true albeit completely out of focus (Ynnari) I give those particular rumors that purported to have seen actual greens/finished models way more credibility than stuff like the rumor that said Segmentum Solar would be replacing Cadia in terms of primary AM kit.

Im pretty sure the Sisters of Silence and the St. Celestine was the "rumors" also the Eldar Triumvirate (due to Lady Mays and Incubi) the leakers might have thought it was DE.

Also SOB is always being "rumors of plastic"

"IMO" If we did get any models, it would be a special Vect box, but not till after the codex.
