I also very much question the splinter cannons across the board. I don't think they are a good value option for anti-infantry. As a consideration, if you drop every splinter cannon you could save 90 points. The Venoms would generally only be losing out on about 2 poison shots each. You could then buy a Blaster for the Warriors (giving you more anti-mech, or simply something better than poison to shoot at armored infantry. The remaining 75 could then easily go into Scourges which would overall get you more poison shooting than the s.cannons is gaining you, and the few spare points could go towards some shock prows since you'll likely need to sac a few boats as assault speed bumps why not get a slightly better swing when you do? My thoughts, hope they help, Thor.

| I think your list lacks focus. Mixing DL and Dissies with a Ravager isn't really an interesting decision. Same for mixing AI and AT guns on trueborns. When you build up a unit, decide what it will do. That way you can understand which unit has to go where, etc. DE are a very specialist army, everything needs to have a specific job.

| Well Mppqlmd, that used to be the case before every unit has split fire in 8th. If you bring 2 Ravagers and 1 is all Dark Lances, and 1 is all Disintegrators, wouldn't that make it easy for your opponent to focus one down and leave you high and dry for AT?
Either way, I don't see a problem with mix and matching weapons on a 36" ranged gun platform.

| The problem with mixing weapons, for example on a Ravager, is that you have to leave said Ravager in range and LOS of 2 different types of unit. If you specialise, you have a much better chance of killing something and then being out of range and/or LOS of everything else.
Even if you lose all your Lances, Dissies are still a very decent source of AT.

| I'm coming down on the side of mixing is fine, myself - since the Dissie is a perfectly functional anti mech tool you don't need to expose yourself to multiple units' fire (and, frankly, most enemy anti-mech isn't sweating the 36 anyway - that's for avoiding infantry mobs in my experience) That said, I don't mix But I don't see an inherent issue with it either. The Razorwing works fine, and it is a mixed shooting platform also. | |

Either way, I don't see a problem with mix and matching weapons on a 36" ranged gun platform. Splitfire is a tactical trap. It feels like "Oh well, i can shoot at whatever i want", but then you realize you have to move to get in range of everything you want to shoot at, and you end up in a position where half the enemy's army can reach and kill you. Also, it tampers with your ability to comprehend your army. Many new players, when asked the essential question of "What is that unit's role in your army", don't know what to answer, and just go "well, it's strong, so i put it in". Understand your army. Make it simple to use. Don't put multiple different tasks on the shoulders of the same unit.

| That seems like good advice for a beginner, or a player working to master the army.
For players who are already playing the game at an advanced level, splitting the weapons up on Ravagers could potentially be a good idea, if you're in a situation to have mixed weapons.
(F'rex, if points restrictions are such that I wind up having to take two dissie ravagers and one lance ravager, I could see a player whose skill is such that he's comfortable handling the extra mental bookkeeping taking one lance per ravager.)

| Yep. I just thought i'd point out that mixing weapons, even with Splitfiring, effectively makes your army more difficult to play and manage. But if you're okay with it and think that by doing it you can achieve something, then go for it. It's not bad in itself. | |

| I don't like to be reductionist, but if you want to hang your performance on a single factor, this seems like the peg to choose.
Practice with your army, specifically with unit combination blocks you intend to use, is the second biggest factor in 40k skill.
(The biggest factor is knowledge of your opponent's army and unit capabilities.)
