Why do I always see RWJFs over Voidravens?

Warhammer 40k is a bit more complicated than "4 shots is better than 3". They do not have the same profiles, and 1 ravager shot is almost worth 2 VRB shots.

Maths :

4 shots that deal D3 damage for 169pts.  4*2 = 8

3 shots that deal D6 damage for 155pts. 3*3.5 = 10.5

THAT is what maths tell.

So the DL ravager :
- is cheaper
- has 12" more range
- has more damage output (because, well, D6 damage is A LOT better than D3 when taking down vehicles).

Definitly the obvious and superior choice. The VRB, as many said, is an expensive tool for Anti heavy infantry.

Again, maths vs meta. More shots are better than the damage, when:

-You don't have any reroll to hit/wound
-There's A LOT of -1 to hit abilities out there.


Hey, I'm playing both Rava and Void so it's fine. But DL Razorwing is pretty bad imho.

Okay, next 1000 games you play, you note down the damage both your VRB and your ravagers deal to tanks. Then you'll realize ravagers are dealing more damage. Then you'll realize going through 1000 games to get that conclusion is pointless, because statistics are there to give you that information.

The maths say Dark Lance Scourges, although there is a 'likely to be dead before you can blink' issue with them. Check the link in my signature if you want the detail.

So the voidraven is cheap, but the razorwing is expensive ?

I think maths say that the best AT in the DE index is clearly the DL ravager (in a damage/points ratio), only topped by the Forgeworld Reaper.

4 D3 damage shots vs 3 D6 damage shots. The Ravager wins hands down.
Dark Scythes are essentially blasters and a Voidraven is more comparable to a unit of Blster Scourges.

Edit: While 10 average wounds from a Ravager don't sound much more than 8 average wounds from  a Voidraven it is an actual increase of 25%.

And now factor in that the Ravager has more range, is cheaper and does not have a minimum movement value.

By all means, if you have success with your Voidraven, then use it. Against some armies like Necrons I find it a very valuable asset, but I'd never take it for a tournament list because it is too specialized.
