| The FLGS has a "no vehicles" game coming up on the horizon, I'd like to participate, but I'm left wondering just how I could accomplish this thing, any idea on how to build the army that can get across a decently terrained table without getting shot to unholy shreds? I am positive WWPs are in my future =P | |

| Beast Masters out of a WWP for sure. If people are actually using Devastators you could even make Mandrakes useful with an outflank maneuver. | |

| I like "Scout" or "Infiltration" more, it's "reliable". But mandrakes should be ok.
I guess Beasts should be Your "autoinclude", as well as Wracks. Also Incubi if someone decide to spoil Your day and go with Death Wing.

| Things you might give a try, because they are fast and/or have a good chance to get across the board: Beasts - They just move 6", but assault 12". Nasty surprise. Hellions - With the Baron they are troops. So why not fill those troop squads with something mobile? Harlequins - with veil of tears they are bound to get close. Grotesques - They aren't fast, but tough. Scourges - with shardcarbines and splintercannons, they are mobile infantry killers. Reavers - They are fast, they are infantry killy, and they are at least somewhat durable, what do you want more?
Things that you might want to include, because they are great, but are either slow, sitting ducks or both or worse: Incubi - They are meatgrinders, probably the best anti-armoursave close combat unit we have, but walking them across the board will be a horrible process. Trueborn - They are a good special weapon platform and not only excell at destroying vehicles, but also are excellent MEQ and TEQ hunters, but without the mobility of a ride, their Blaster threat bubble shrinks significantly and if they are equipped with lances they are completely immobile. IMHO, we have better ways to get around armour saves. Pain engines - these are slow, right? So slow, no one would ever walk them across a board, right? Keep in mind, that they are much slower than our vehicles, but just as fast as the humble walking trooper. So why not take some? They are tough as nails, hit hard and will draw fire away from any other juicy target you bring. They are probably better in cutting through MEQs and TEQs than incubi are.
Some information, like points limit and if it's a big multi-player game or not, will be usefull to further develop a tactic, but my aproach, and advice, would be to exaggerate our strengths in lieu of trying to cover our weaknesses. Why field supersized blobs of warriors and wyches or wracks and grotesques, to get a more durable force, when we can field fast moving, terrain hopping hellions, beasts, reavers and so on.
A WWP is a possible option, but remember, that you have to walk it across the board, too. It will give you an advantage, but it will be smaller than usually.

| We really can't help you with an army until you tell us the point total for the event.
Other than that Tri probably has the answer I best agree with.

| 1,500 points, mission-based 1 on 1 games, rather like the stuff you would find in the old necromunda matches, (demolish objectives, capture HQs, etc). It's mostly just for funsies, but there was hints of prizes in the offing for extremely cool happenings and/or cool army concepts.
(The last time we same something like this, a wounded bloodthirster charged a Gun drone... and died; he wiffed his attacks, the brave little toaster managed to pull a wound, and he lost the last one to instability. Both players got free drinks for the night and a 5 dollar gift cert.)

| I am in no way a tactical genius but for my first few games with my first few games using dark eldar I had NO tanks, I was some what worried. I played 1000 pt games against eldar and daemons and managed to tie them both up |I seam tie every game for some reason| I ran three talos which helped me out alot. there twin linked splinter cannons and MC status as well as a three plus save made them tanks in there own right. just stay away from the skull taker.

You want Pain Tokens. | |

| I was just thinking that Mr.Ork. The cronus would give a nice boost to the trio and any groups of wracks or grotesques nearby.
If you dont have to worry yourself about tanks remember to bring LOTS of splinter and poison weapons for other MC'S.

| No vehicles means no walkers, and no tanks, which means poison will reign somewhat supreme.
Lack of transports also means gunlines will likely reign supreme. DE suffer as a foot gunline due to inability to really have long range firepower, so you'll be wanting foot units that are rock tough and/or able to move quickly.
Oddly enough I actually agree with the calls for Hellions, the Baron and Hellions will be a force to be reckoned with. Beasts+Baron are also a solid consideration. Talos strike me as a solid choice, I'd go with TL Liquifiers on them also, as the ability to frag foot will be plentiful. Splinter Cannons are the desirable tools on Warrior squads.

| 1+ to pretty much all the above. Pretty much your looking for early pain tokens and tougher units, so these would be my choices: HQ: Baron- great all around HQ already, and hellions have a great place in this type of tourney, also beasts are good too 1 or 2 haemies- if you decide to take warriors as a firebase style army (I like too in my foot WWP lists, so they will probably help here) these will help giving them FNP from the start, FNP + Cover is amazing Elites: Grotesques: great to use in a small squad, they can be pricey but would be hard for people to drop. Remember they need an IC though Mandrakes: I would use them to tie up Devs and the like, although I think there are some better choices out there Hariles: VoT makes them almost untouchable, and they are a beast in combat Troops: Hellions: They will find a home here. Their shooting is almost on par with the output of a venom, and with Baron they will be scoring, and decent in assault. Remember to keep them in cover and watch people cry when they cant hurt any of them Warriors: Dont knock the standard warrior, with a haemie for FNP they give you a nice firebase to for your entire army. Also the Cannon can let you shoot even from the beginning Wracks: Tough units with Flamers, whats not to love FA: Reavers: I think they would be amazing. Heck, I would probably even kit them out for assault and go TB up, run over some people, then T2 shoot and assault some Devs. Personally I would love this game type Scourges: Mobile AI Fire Support, whats not to love Beasts: Decent to say the least, if you dont take Hellions, then Baron with them would be amazing HS: Talos: Great choice, TL-Liquifer and SC seem to be the choice here. HF Chewing through squads, just watch out for PW Chronos: Good blast, flamer, and pain token generation. Great force multiplier for your force. Almost an auto-include So it seems like you have alot of choices dont yah | |

| I would take warrior blobs, just for a complete opposite to my usual play style. But seriously beasts and talos are probably the way to go | |
