RWJF/Voidbomber vs Tyranids Empty
PostSubject: RWJF/Voidbomber vs Tyranids   RWJF/Voidbomber vs Tyranids I_icon_minitimeTue Dec 19 2017, 09:53

I play vs Tyranids a lot and they are a tough nut to crack. I've been looking at adding a RWJF or maybe Voidraven to my collection. The high speed, hard to hit, can't be charged will make them difficult for the Nids to deal with....I hope.

I just have one big, tyrant sized concern. When my opponent figures out a deep striking, flying tyrant can charge quite reliably. Adrenal glands and a DS leaves the flyrant needing an 8" charge roll, and I don't see how I can avoid it. Because of the movement of the flyers it's not really possible to protect them with screens against a deep strike. And a tyrant would only need that one round of combat to kill or cripple either of the RWJF or Voidraven.

Any ideas on how to handle that?

For turn 1 and 2 it might be quite possible to protect against deep strike (just fly along your own deployment zone). This means you will have a t least 2 turns of shooting with the plane. After that it might be worth it to move him completely up the board into the back of the enemy deployment. This means that even if he assaults with his hive tyrant he might kill your Razorwing, but will need one or 2 turns to get back into the fight. This means that you will have about 2-3 turns of shooting and his tyrant will be out of the game for 1-2 (before deepstrinking) +1-2 (repositioning) so his hive tyrant will be half the game unusable as well. Usually by the time he will get back in the fight the battle will already have been decided either for or against you. And if you are lucky he failed to kill the razorwing and just waisted a lot of potential for not much gain.
But yes those hive tyrants are great at killing flyers.

With what, a 72" move, fly the fighter where the flyrant does not want to be, like his own deployment board edge corner. With the range on the RWJF, you are still a viable threat, but if he goes for it, he will be out of position for a few turns at least. Like a pawn in chess, some sacrifices are worth it.

razorwing flocks, reavers, and helions can screen the fliers quite nicely. Tyranids are my main army and I think that Dark Eldar can match up pretty nicely. Focus down the big bugs, speed bump the genestealers, and try to outscore them. I say that realizing that Kraken genestealers can run down Reavers pretty reliably which is insane. Probably the best bet is to try your best until the new DE codex drops. Index armies are fighting an uphill battle against any codex.

Yeah just take 2 units of like 4 RWF and place them in from of the flyers, have your flyers in the Corner of the board so there is only a front.

Flyers can can basically move anywhere they want.

Can use 5 man kabalite squads as a deep strike screen. I have them forward of my venoms so if i do get the first turn, they can just move to my venoms and embark. If i don't and some nasty assualt deep striek arrives, they can only get to some kabalites.

I would think the solution would be cheap screens and more dark light
