| So after a few games under my belt i have had some surprising things happen to me RE just how good DE are in 40k (espescially in combat). I would like to hear if any other people have had any major surprises in their games ie powerful units/heroes vanquished, survival against the odds etc My first one is my unit of reavers (78pts) turboboosting out of a webway portal and bladevaneing a Black Templars Marshall (190pts) into oblivion on the second turn of the game. Much surprise on both sides of the board on that one | |

| I don't think I am ever much surprised. I suppose on random totally wonky dice results I'm occasionally shocked, but on the whole my DE do what I expect of them.
I do have opponents react with surprise however on occasion. Most of my fond recollections of recent history are based around the Duke. Him and his 5 Warrior escorts have assaulted/been assaulted by some interesting things (Blood Angel Assault Marines, full squad of Kroot, Grey Hunters with Priest, ect. ect.) When the Duke goes snicker-snack and leaves 3-4 dead mooks in his wake every time and then the Warriors chime in with a horde of high initiative attacks my opponents are usually horrified to see they lost combat while doing only minimal damage in return - usually phrases like 'I thought he was the weak DE HQ in assault' are tossed around.
Usually I smile and say 'he is.'

| hehe, there are some fun random dice rolls that are a nice surprise sometimes, that get my enemy's a tad frustrated :p Like when Shattershard killed that Deamon prince, or when a singel Wych took out two squads of Chaos Marines alone (5 men in each squad). And when a singel Warrior survived after saving 10 armor saves But then again all this has come of the cost of my Darklight weapons who are just shooting sparkles these days... | |

| 3 grotes, Succubus, and Archon. shoot by terminator squad, 3 noise marine squads, then charged by 5 terminators, 20 bezerkers, and Abaddon. After a few rounds of combat, archon and succubus are only models left standing, and have full wounds. Even ended on opponets turn so I could have charged the noise marines next turn, If opponent hadn't conceded game that turn.
Same game I didn't loss a vehicle, kept making flickerfield saves. 4 venom, 3 raider, 2 razorwing, and void raven, only damage at end of game was 2 immobile and 1 splinter cannon destroyed.

| Hmm most surprising thing for me was... Playing a game against orks that all hid in battlewagons with def rollas. My opponent was set to tank shock turn on and start blowing up vehicles with those def rollas. Moved up my 3 raiders with wyches and haemes in them and dropped 3 WWP in a semicircle to block off the tank shocks and make those battlewagons worthless deployable impassable terrain FTW! My opponent didn't expect it and I didn't think of it until the last second when I stole the initiative. | |

| I had a game a while back where I rolled 12 AP rolls of all 1's in the first two turns against AV 11 Rhinos in the first two turns. I broke the streak with a.....wait for it....2. I got tabled by the end of turn 4. | |

| Been there done that. Had a similar experience with a 4 turn combat between Archon and 7 wyches and GK Librarian and 5 Termies (I play against GK a LOT!!) Over 100 dice rolled between us and only 3 things died. The amount of 1's and 2's rolled was just unbelievable | |

| As with thor, They pretty much do what I predict them doing, except for the dreaded darklight curse (I swear is this curse world-wide or what ) The funny thing is my venoms are the bane of my store, on the simple fact that I always, always get 5 wounds or more with them. Its so bad its almost funny, and destroys all statistics when I try to mathhammer out an army list, which sometimes is a good thing | |

| In a recent tournament game against Orks, I lined up my 12 Trueborn blasters and 9 Dark Lance Ravagers up to take some shots and hopefully stop the incoming destruction. I only managed to hit with 2 of 9 Dark Lances and 3 of 12 Blasters, and didn't even scratch the Wagons. His return fire saw 4 Big Shootas explode 2 Venoms. And then there were Deff Rollas...
So there you have it, Orks can outshoot Dark Eldar, if even for just one turn of the game...

| Poured 3 full Venoms and 6 of their Blasterborn inhabitants into a 2-strong Oblit squad and only caused a single wound. | |

Yeah... well my shooty orks list all but tabled such a list in my first turn of shooting. Quantity has a quality all of its own. That wasn't the only game where my shooty Orks have done well... but I remember the shock of the guy well.

| This didnt happen to me but i saw it happen this weekend. 2 Friends playin GK's and BT's, a combat between a MAJORLY tooled up Librarian and an equally tooled up Marshal lasted 5 turns!!!! Thats a record as the longest combat i have witnessed, I have never seen so many invulnerable saves in my life, it was EPIC!!!!
Everything else on the board blew up or died in good order but that combat really took centre stage!!

| Last weekend, had my Archon with a soultrap and huskblade attack a generic space marine captain, while his incubi attack the squad. Archon does.... Nothing!!! not a scratch. Incubi kill off 4 marines so they lost combat. chase him down... no, they escape. Later I get retribution by charging the captain again and his new squad. Wipe them out to a man Only to be charged by a Venerable Dread My Archon won the combat for 3 turns! but could never actually blow up the dread. Turn 7, his shadow field ran out of batteries | |

| I love the look of shock on the faces of people who look at the DE stat line and laugh and then after a subtle massacre during the "not close enough to fight in CC" phase get turned into mincemeat by Warriors, then someone Raiders a squad of Incubi into melee. mwa-ha-ha-HA. | |

| I got a couple of "that worked better than I thought" moments:
Urien and Grotesques killing 16 genestealers w/catalyst in one turn (shooting + assault)
Urien and Grotesques killing Dante and command squad after being charged by them
Archon and 8 wyches killing Ragnart, Rune Priest and 10 Grey Hunters in 2 combat phases
6 Bikes Caltropping a CSM squad of 10 leaving 2
And a special shout-out to the wracks:
Naked Acothyst + 9 wracks killing 5 Terminators on 3 separate occasions.
Haemy + Wracks surviving 2k points of Iron Warriors (being the only target to shoot at)
Haemy + Wracks surviving 2k points of Space Wolves (being the only target to shoot at)

| I had a very fun, very quick game on Tuesday. 1000pts DE vs DE. All I can say is, at least the Dark Eldar won. Although I got tabled in a couple of turns it was a hilliarious game. For once darklight actually worked. Every time he fired a darklight weapon at any of my Raiders, it not only hit and penetrated but every pen' roll was a 6, taking out the majority of the squad hidding in side or nearby. Only saving grace for me was the Hekatrix who, standing out in the open after the blaster born had shot down her raider (and the rest of her squad had died in the inevitable explosion), managed to survive the full attention of a dual SC venom before charging into the blaster born and getting some mild pay back. (Ok so she only killed one blaster born, but apart from one raider and a gun of a ravager that was my only kill ) | |

| 10 Wyches moving up on a SW Devastator-unit (5 Space Marines) in cover. I decide to shoot my splinterpistols to soften them up. 10 shots, 9 hits....4 dead Puppies damn, after killing the last one in the charge, I got charged by his Bjarni-Cybot But the look on his face was worth it! | |
